Oil & Fuel But what if I run out of fuel?

( What they are referring to is on the older tractors. When you ran out of fuel, the system would get air locked. You would have take a wrench and loosen the fuel line at the injector pump output. Then you would crank the engine untill bubbles quit coming out of the line. You would then retighten the line and attempt to start the tractor. Some times you would have to do this more than once. The new tractors do not have this problem when you run out of fuel and will purge themselves. )

This is still the way I have to do it on my 2001 New Holland TC33D /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Same experience as everyone else on my B6100. when I ran out of fuel I had to bleed the injectors per the owner's manual. Quick and easy.

But I've wondered: Why do these systems need manual bleeding? Why doesn't the fuel pump just push the air out thru the injector ahead of the fuel. I wouldn't think it would need to be cranked too long before the air was out and the injector was squirting fuel again. What I'm saying is why won't the air "bleed" out thru the injectors? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have had my BX2200 for over a year and been warned by several people to not let a diesel run out of fuel. When I ask what I do to get it back going, they say just don't let it run out.
What if I should let it run out? What do you do to get it going again?

You just toss your throw away Kubota in the dump but please tell me which dump you toss it into. J

Why don't you just dump it in my personal "tractor dump"? I'll give you directions to my place /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif....

When I went to the dealer to order my bx2200 last weekend, the salesman had a bx22 sitting in the yard. He told me to fire it up and try out the loader. Well, it was out of fuel. Well out. He poured some fuel in it, I cranked it for a few seconds and it started right up and ran fine.
I don't think you have much to worry about /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

I don't know what that word "froud" is that Egon mentioned, and I used to wonder the same thing you do, and I think it might have something to do with the fact that the fuel is pushed through those injectors under considerable pressure and air is compressible while liquid fuel isn't. Now somebody explain this better. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Hi Frank,

Glad it wasn't just me. I'm usually pretty good at figuring these things out, but that one did have me a bit perplexed.
