Buying a DK65

   / Buying a DK65 #21
Hi All,
That 90HP will be introduced(re-designed) in the US soon. As I hear it all the testing and permitting is done. Just putting the final touches on pricing and literature.
It should be a heck of a tractor.

One might need the big lift capacity on the 3ph for fork lift functions. Say, pallets of stones and the like. Or, perhaps for big logging.

Yes, you're right. I guess I never thought of those two uses because I have a fork truck and logging....what's logging? ;)

That's something you do when you fire up your 'puter isn't it? Logging in....:D

Hi I'm back...with a report on my DK 65s tractor that I bought about 9 months ago.

It has done every job I put it on ....very well and above expectations....power in the engine and fuel aconomy is excellent....handles great with farm implements.

However I do have a complaint...when I hook the pto up to a implement...such as a 1 row bean picker as well as a 1 row corn puller...the pto has no give in it or cushion to start the machine turning softly.

It is very abrubt even at the lowest rpm...so much so that each machine shakes a bit when I use the electrically controlled button on the side of the cab. Both machines sound like a jarring noise to get turning.

My dealer called Kioti and the reply came back that that is the way the pto works...suddenly.

Right now i'm afraid to use the pto for the sake of harming the equipment.Kubota, Case IH and John Deere feather the pto into turning a split second longer to not harm any gears on the machinery.

My question is...does the pto clutch system soften up over prolonged use?..to where it engages a little easier....If anybody has any experience with this I would really like to know?....and anybody using these tractors needs to realize that mowers and shredders or whatever you hook up...it could take away from the life of the implement when it engages abrubtly.

That's the way my DK55 works as well - makes me nervous but I do idle down pretty low to engage - hope this isn't just as bad and slamming at higher RPM.

Yes, my 45 is the same way. About the only time I break shear pins on my mower is when I engage the PTO and that is at the lowest rpm's possible. They are definitely lacking the light touch.

I'm guessing you have the PTO selector in 540, not 1000.

Mine engages quickly but it sure isn't tearing up any implement. I've used 7' finish mower, 12' bushhog, and post hole digger.

Yes it is in 540....I have'nt yet used the 1000 speed ...even though it's very handy spot to engage into.

My DK65 also has a sudden engagement, at least to me, who is used to slowly engaging a manual clutch on an old John Deere 3020. First time I engaged it at idle, I thought about trying to lower the idle speed to soften the engagement. Anybody know what kind of mechanical connection is happening when the switch is pushed? Thought I read somewhere that it had a wet clutch for the pto, anybody else see that? Possibly a solenoid to jam a gear to another, or some kind of clutch like an air conditioner in a car has, maybe? I'd really like to hear from someone who services these re: the pto switch. Love the tractor, though!
