Buying a DK65

The DK65's in this area I know of are a couple years old. They both have much more HP than traction to hold it. They seem like a lot more than a 65HP tractor.

As for a speedometer, I use my little tractor to spray ditches and lots. I use my wifes Garmin Forerunner 101 on my arm for the speedometer. You can get them off Ebay for under $100, sometimes much less. It works fine in the cab, the pickup, bicycle, or anywhere else we have taken it.

I've been looking at the specs on the 65 and they seem impressive. The lift capacity 24 in. behind the lift point is 4,850 lbs., over 2,000 lbs more than the 45 has. They also say it has front and rear differential lock, that should get you out of about any sticky situation. It has ground PTO, that's something I never heard of?? An oil cooler also comes standard with this tractor. The total weight for the cab 65 is over 6,800 lbs. It will be interesting to see what higher hp tractor Kioti comes out with next and the features that it has.

They make a DK75 but don't import it to the USA. I vaguely recall the DK series even goes up to 95, not sure.

The Australian Daedong site lists a 90hp Perkins DK901 with cab weighing 7500lbs and with a 3PT lift of 5200lbs at "lift point". Sweet looking cab too. It is part of the 75/80/90 hp series that I guess is one step up the DaeDong ladder from the DK65 series.

Those ought to be nice machines. Also, the weight on the 90 hp is in the reasonable range. I think I've found that you can have too much weight. My larger tractor weighs over 10k with just the FEL and 84" bucket on it. Unless the ground is rock hard in dry times, I can't get it out on any lawn area without leaving some nasty marks. I think 7500 is plenty heavy without being too heavy and 90 hp would make for a good hp/weight ratio as well. Sounds like a very nice setup.

Of course that was the spec'd weight for the DK901 tractor alone. I assume the loader would add quite a bit as would any ballast etc. I'd think of these bigger Kiotis as Ag tractors where lawns should not be an issue. I'd hate to take grief from the Mrs. everytime I screwed up her lawn.

Very true. However, even in Ag applications it is my understanding that soil compaction is something that is not desired. Now, I'm not a farmer, I'm just going off of what I've heard. I suppose that's why I can see where a stub can be mounted on my rears to add dual rear wheels? Also, even in fields I would make one heck of a mess now. I actually entertained the thought of buying the widest set of R1 tires that would fit; thinking that the more tire I put on the ground, the less the compaction. Seeing the prices of those tires got me away from that thinking.

I am a rank amature when it comes to Ag tractors. I just thought the specs posted for the Kioti were appealing. I do wonder about why those tractors, and similar ones like mine, have the option to give the 3 pt. hitch absolutely huge lift ratings? I mean, if I can lift 4800 pounds 24" behind the eyes of my 3 pt. hitch, I better have something really heavy on the front. Off hand, I don't know what would call for that much lifting power from a 3 pt. hitch. Even a 8' heavy duty rotary cutter only weighs in the lower 2000 pound range. You have me wondering now. What would weigh so much that would go on the 3 pt. hitch?

Since Dargo mentioned it, what is a good weight to hp ratio? My little JD 870 that I had was 78 lb to 1 hp. My Kioti 45 cab has a ratio of 101 lb to 1 hp and the Kioti 65 cab is 107 lb to 1 hp. Does more weight to hp mean a less efficient tractor?

Man, I don't even have a clue. I assume at some outlandish point it would. I have more hp and more weight than the DK65, so I certainly wouldn't be making any negative comments. ;) My guess, and it's only a guess, would be that it would make more of a difference in some of the lower powered tractors that have a lot of weight. I assume the magic number is able to be calculated, but not by me.
