Hello everyone. I am looking for a tractor larger than my John Deere 400 (glorified lawn mower) and have been looking at older Fords, 9N, 8N, Jubilee, etc. I have come across a Ford 2000 Super Dexta with a diesel engine. It looks to be in very good shape, and the owner wants $2500 for it.

Is this a good price?

Is there anything I should watch for on this machine?

Thanks.

Bill

Bill,

Is it a Ford Super Dexta (1961-64, Perkins 3 cylinder, Outstanding engine!!!- Yes Buy), or Ford 2000 (1962-64, 4 cylinder, so so maybe $2k}

I've hadn't heard of the "combo" you mention? {What is the serial #?}

Hi John

Yes, it is the Super Dexta with the Perkins 3 cyl. diesel engine. I just got back from looking at it again, and I have agreed to buy it. I don't have the serial number (yet), but it is early 60's, and apparently it was built in England (steering wheel on the wrong side and all that). ;-) It has a two speed transmission, a two position clutch, and a live PTO. I may need to put some new tires on relatively soon, but only time will tell on that. Everything else seems to be in very good shape. The cowling is dented up a little from the use of a FEL some time ago, but it does not affect anything but the appearance. It could use some paint, and a new smoke stack, but other than that, it is ready to do some work.

The seller is going to deliver it for me as part of the price. It is only about 12 miles from me, but it sure beats having to drive it that far and cross some of the highways I would have to cross.

Thanks for your input.

Well, the gearshift pattern is backwards anyway. First gear is all the way over on the right, and it goes first, second, FOURTH, in low range, and then third, fifth, and sixth in high. That might take a little getting used to. Beyond that though, it seems to be pretty straightforward.

Hey! You can't call a gearshift "backwards." The PC thing is to say it is "directionally challenged."/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
