Buying a JD 3039R, I think.

I don't know. I didn't look at Grands. I don't remember what the l3901 went for anymore.

No one mentions it, but the other big minus to Kubotas is they are orange...

Front End Loaders | H165 Loader | John Deere US

Kudos to Deer for publishing real and useful loader Specs.

The Deere 3039R is almost twice as nice as the cheapo 3038E.

What is the typical price difference between a L3901 and a 3039R? Are you talking Grand L territory?

I think the 3039r and the grand L4060 would be close in price. Didn't get a quote on the 4060 but going off msrp... There is about 5-6k separating the quotes I got on the L3901 and the 3039r...

Cabs seem mighty expensive and most compact tractor drivers aren't on them all that long. Not to mention cabs in the timber where many of us go, aren't a great idea either. I can't imagine shelling out the dough for a cab.

I agree. Personally I've never needed a cab... I just dress appropriately. Mind you, except for a fortnight during haying season (helping a neighbour) I'm not daily on my tractor. To me, and my climate, a cab wasn't a consideration.

You'll be happy with the 3039R... as long as you've discussed all of your 'tractor needs' with the salesman. A good salesman/dealership will sell you the tractor you need.

We're not getting a cabbed tractor because we need to on and off it much, it costs more and it won't be used in inclement weather anyway. Operator visibility it a bit better as well.

Wagtail, you have lots more confidence in salesman than we do........

I'm afraid here in the U.S. we have created this ourselves. The Dealerships/Salesmen have been overwhelmed in the under 100hp market by buyers that barely know how to start the tractor let alone understand it's capabilities. So they have evolved and generally don't spend much time understanding the buyer. And why should they. The buyer doesn't understand his own intent.

That is awfully cynical, Richard.

Frankly I don't see anybody around when I'm in a dealership. I rarely see even one other customer besides myself.

Not cynical at all. Not intended to be cynical. Just peruse the threads on this website. Every day, at least once a day, is a thread started by a potential buyer of a less than 100HP tractor that doesn't know enough about tractors to understand what he/she needs. So they ask a website. Dealership salespersons are inundated by them daily. After awhile they simply sell the buyer whatever the buyer thinks they need based on someone's response on a website. I wouldn't argue either if I was the salesman, I would simply move on with the sale. :)

As to the number of daily sales potentials at your dealership, I cannot voice an opinion.

I guess the true old salts just went out and bought whatever without talking to anyone and always got it right. Nope, they never discussed their needs with the neighbors at breakfast over at the corner cafe on Saturday mornings. Nope. Just born knowing everything.

Dealers back then certainly were more lnowledgable too, of course there was no point in that since the old salt already knew everything anyway.

You be cynical, man. Very.

Dealers way back then acted as their own salesman and personally knew most all of the farmers in his surrounding area. My neighbor who passed away a year ago at age 92, was a life long farmer. Long ago when he bought his first new manure spreader, he actually helped the dealer uncrate and assembled it because the dealer's mechanic was out helping another farmer with a problem. Today that same dealership is the biggest John Deere dealership in that area.

Very "old salts" learned by the school of hard knocks. But were also willing to teach others by their mistakes. How many neighbors don't even talk to one another today.
