Buying a JD 3039R, I think.

I can say from my own use that I prefer the higher hp models for my use but either of the two, 3039R or 3046R will get the job done.

I do too. I'd rather have HP that I rarely use than rarely need HP that I don't have.

I think the majority of us would agree with that.

I never say "I know" or "everybody". Obviously that is never the case with any subject as evidenced on this forum. ;)

Very few CUTs (in the South) have cabs. We must just be used to the heat/humidity. IMO a cab would get in the way unless you are just doing things like mowing or plowing in open fields for hours on end. I would love to have a dedicated tractor just for mowing with a cab but even then it would get in the way when I mow around the scattered trees in my pasture. The only people I know who have cabs mow for a living or have very large tractors and large ranches (1,000+ acres).

I understand that. I don't have a cab tractor either. On a rare occasion I wish I did. Most times I couldn't use it either. :)

Only time I want more hp is when shredding pasture. Weeds cut much easier. I would run out of traction before power. It's cheaper to get what you want the first time than it is to trade in and buy again. If you want the 3046, get it. I also second the cab. For sure get the bigger tractor if you go with a cab because you usually loose some hp with the a/c compressor, bigger alternator and more weight. I'm on my second cab tractor and have zero desire to get an OOS. It's nice being able to mow or do any tractor chores in the middle of summer in shorts, tee and flip flops and come in at the end of the day refreshed, not covered in dirt and clippings and not be stinky/sweaty. Makes the day go by faster and more comfortable. I can't stand getting covered in dust which turns to mud and chaffs ya bad

A batwing makes mowing around trees much easier. I used to trim trees in the spring, but now I can stay far enough away it works great. Other option would be to not mow close to the trees and I'd take that over not having a cab any day!

I also carry my boy with me so that was a big factor too

I'm afraid here in the U.S. we have created this ourselves. The Dealerships/Salesmen have been overwhelmed in the under 100hp market by buyers that barely know how to start the tractor let alone understand it's capabilities. So they have evolved and generally don't spend much time understanding the buyer. And why should they. The buyer doesn't understand his own intent.

Sure have to agree with this statement Richard. I see the same thing.

Yes getting the 165 loader...

any reason to step up to the 3046r? Looks like there is a 2.8 hp pto difference for around 4K bucks more..

I was looking at the same tractor. The dealer had a 3046R and made me a deal I couldn't pass up. I purchased the 3046R and have accumulated 55hrs
I can't say enough how pleased I am with this machine. The power and capability have wildly exceeded my expectation

Hi, 6'3" and love the 3039r open station. Of course I don't have severe weather in the PNW. I did try the cabbed version of the 3 and the 4 series. Leg room was smaller so it was not comfortable. Nicely features, but just fidn dit as Archie Campbell would say.
