Buying a used plow

I am buying a used Kubota single bottom plow that has supposedly only been used 1 time but has been sitting outside for the last 3 or 4 years.

What do I use to clean up the moldboard so it plows efficiently as possible?

Going with a single bottom since my compact tractor is rated at 17hp

single is the right choice for your 17hp.

use either a cup wheel on a grinder or my favorite, one of the flap sander disks for a grinder to clean off the surface rust.

whatever you dont get with the grinder will be taken care of within the first 100' or so of plowing.

I spray a light coat of paint on mine in between uses as paint comes off easier than rust durring the next use.

what he said.....or if you have some sandy / gravely land that will put a good shine on the moldboards too.

Plowing with it will polish, wear the rust off, in no time at all.

Otherwise a rotary steel brush on the end of a drill will remouve it in short time, or a cup wire brush on a hand held grinder.

Would powdercoating the moldboard work, once it's cleaned off?

Bad idea, once it gets worn off, when you are done with it put a thick coat of grease on it.

You could also sand blast to remove rust...

I always used grease to coat the moldboards after plowing for the season, but it is a messy job. This year I had a partial can of spray paint on the bench at the time, so I grabbed that to try rather than grease. It was much easier, and from now on I will use old spray paint.

I use Fluid Film and don't worry about it. Any rust is gone after a short time in the ground.

Here is the single bottom plow I picked up.
Since I am a newbie, can someone tell me the best way to adjust the plow?

I just plow. Rust comes off in a pass or two.
