Buying a vehicle online

I've purchased my last three tractors/equipment from across the country.

I purchased a 2000 Ford Excusion 7.3 Diesel 4x4 from a Utah auction with 3K miles on it, can't remember the price but I drove it for a year and sold it for what I paid for it.
I purchased a 2006 CAT skid steer from Virginia, I'm in Ca. bought it for 29K in 2008, sold it for 29K in 2016.
I purchased a new from dealer a 1999 Kubota L for 19K ( 5K cheaper than a dealer 2 miles from me) sold it 5 years later for 19K
I purchased a 2000 used Hummer H2 from a texas dealer in 2000 for 60K drove it for two years and sold it for 60K.
My current Kubota 2016 L4060 Cab model I purchased from a Colorado dealer for $33,759
I purchased a 2016 used Dealer Demo highly discounted RV from an Indiana manufacturer/ I flew to pick it up after sending all my camping gear, pots, pans, clothes, etc via UPS to the dealer to stock before I arrived with family for a 20 state tour before my daughter went to college. Drove it back home sold it for what I paid for it when I got back to California.

Even with shipping / Trucking ea. deal was great.

The 1999 Kubota I was trying to buy locally but al the Ca. dealers were Jerks and would not come off a dime from retail. I contacted a dealer in South Carolina who was 5K cheaper. When I asked the local guy if he could match the price he said nope go buy it from them....and I did.

The service was AMAZING from the SC dealer. Remember this was when digital cameras were just coming out and the dealer sent me daily updates on my tractor build. I had a custom top put on, rear remotes, and other equipment. Just think of that daily DIGITAL pictures back then. It would be like seeing a cas powered vehicle in the horse and buggy days.

It's all about who you're buying from and the type of equipment, year and condition.

Heck I just purchased a 3 point Trencher from China for $1,500/$800.00 shipping import fees. and it is perfect same thing here in the USA was quoted 5K-8K for the same thing. Guess what I will be selling the trncher for when I'm done with it......you guessed it, exactly what I paid for it.

Well that's easy enough to resolve...just remove the logo. Seems half the toyota trucks around here have it either blacked out or removed. Not sure why, don't see that on any other makes.
You must’ve missed the point there. It’s still a ford at the end of the day. I guess you could put 19.5 wheels on it too but I don’t know what the availability would be for them.

This could also apply to buying a tractor, real estate, or (?)

Many of you tell of the deals which you find, yet all that I ever get is burned. So here's a truck which I would be interested in if it was on this half of the continent, or if my brother hadn't just moved back from Arizona last week.

Any comments on how you would buy this from away?

As a fellow Mainer I prefer to buy my used, non flooded cars from the Southern part of the country. Up north too many vehicles succumb to the salty roads here and rust out quicker than you can put 100,000 miles on them.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee is a 2005 had it for 13 years, came from Arizona-still no rust. I have 130,000 miles on it now and still runs great. Will do it again next year or year after-just enjoying the no car payments now :)

I watched some repair videos on youtube and 3-4 year old cars/trucks with their frame completely rusted and flaked away from salt. Here in Southern California I just bout a 1962 Thunderbird and the frame look like the day it came off the assembly like.

If I lived on the east coast it would be worth buying used vehicles and driving them back.

I now undrstand why vehicle manufactures sell so many vehicles it's because they rust away on the east coast.

You're right, it would. Better yet, buy a tow vehicle and trailer then bring two vehicles back.
Ironically I was talking to a couple of brothers who used to buy several Caprices in Maine (probably at auction, they have a dealer's license) then each would drive one down to Florida while towing another. For some reason there is or was a high demand for them down there.

I've done it twice and will do it again. Ask for LOTS of close up pictures of problem areas and ship with an AUTO transporter. 1-2 weeks.
After repairing and flipping a pickup that came to ND from AZ with a military man I definitely see the benefits of the southern state vehicles. No rust, no PB Blaster, no impact guns, no gravel and dirt wedged in everywhere!!
Around here, older work trucks bring gooood money if they are still in good shape because a newer one is ridiculously priced. Sadly they then end up as concrete crew truck and get beat to death.
What kind of diesel 450 can you get for $8000?

I’ve drove a 3500HD with 19.5s. On road it drives pretty good. There didn’t seem to be much difference between it and my 3500 with 16s. Off road it’s eligible for the hardest riding truck I’ve ever drove. Probably even worse than my Topkick. But those old 450s and the 1990s 3500HDs will haul a heck of a load. More than the 16”s can carry.
