Doesn't look like it has been abused and in pretty good shape. Check the gearbox oil and for signs of leakage underneath on the output shaft. Note: it is common in some areas of the country to remedy leaking seals with bearing grease. Check that the blades rotate freely and are not bent and are even. Check for play in the U-joints . Also noticed that it appears to be set up for a quick-hitch, in that the top link connector is missing.
Yes, it is not set up to attach the top link direct. I noticed it from the picture as well and the seller let me know before I went out so I brought my quick hitch which actually fit perfectly.

Usually there is a port for max fill level. Or just half full. That's good enough. I would change it for some fresh 80/90.

Blades don't have to be sharp. But if you feel like keeping them that way, work is easier and you get a nicer job.

In a way, the way I look at stuff like this. You got this for FREE! You can use it, enjoy it and get every penny out of it (if not more) when you sell it. Well done!

You can always get bearings you may have to cross reference them
and usually bearing shops have cross reference books.

Might be a small plug in side of gear housing to remove for fill level.
Yup!
Effectively it is FREE!

I know people who can get good stuff for nothing. They would get that mower for $200.00 I don't know how they do it. I can't.
Yeah... and a lot of them are the same ones who never bought a stock or investment that lost money

I have met a few folks who tell stories like that.:)

Actually, a friend of mine is like that. But on the other hand gets GREAT deals on tractors that never work when he needs them, spends all his time and a lot of money fixing them, then doesn't figure any of that in, sells them and thinks he did O.K. lol Then onto the NEXT "cheap tractor" looser project.

With a little luck should provide many years of service.

Big fan of fresh lube...

Amazing how well a dull blade handles brush...

Can't tell how old this Bush Hog is but from search turns out that they must have made this model for many years. Was able to download an operations manual and parts manual. Happy surprise.

As you can see from the photo does not have a front chain guard. Am looking for purchase options.
