Anyone know why the left rear axle seal on my bx would walk out of the housing and pour hydro fluid out? I was working her pretty hard pulling some scrub oaks and noticed the leak( I mean BIG leak )and shut her down. looked under and found the seal had moved out of the housing and was dumping fluid. I pushed the seal back into place and the leak stopped but would like to know why this happend??? 275 hrs so no warranty left. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The drive line is warrantied for 3 years, if I remember correctly, so it might not be out of warranty. I would check with the dealer and see what he says. The only reason that I can think of that would cause the seal to come out is internal pressure buildup that couldn't be vented elsewhere. No matter what, I would make the call and ask. Asking is free and if you wait, it might just run out of warranty.

Did the seal feel hard or brittle, or was it pliable?

the seal is a metal ring with a rubber lip similar to an axle seal on a vehicle so i can't figure out how it came out of the housing?

My front axel started leaking the other day. Last night I tapped a 1/8 NPT fitting into the plug opposite the axel dipstick side (BX2200), and I've now vented it. I will be doing the same on the main transmission yet. I've yet to be convinced that any gearbox that has thermal expansion, doesn't need a vent. My dealer said that Kubotas were designed for the wet "rice patties", and thus were not vented. He was very interested to see if my leak persisted after venting. I'll let you all know too. I'm not convinced this will fix the leak, but it may prevent future leaks.

I've never met a gearbox or axle that wasn't vented. You might find a gearbox vent under the seat at the top of the 3pt hydraulics. That's where the vent is for the B2400.

I know that the BX 2200 rear axle/transmission is already vented. The vent is located on the top/rear of the axle casting, under the rear of the seat, in the vicinity of the wiring harness breakout for the optional work lights. No need to add another vent.

bluecon1 is talking about the front axle and the two previous posters are talking about the rear axle. Kinda like oranges and pears. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Agreed that I was talking about the front axle, so sorry for the confusion. I was kind of talking about gearboxes in general, and the need to vent. A couple of you are correct in saying there is already a vent (flip the seat forward) on the BX main transmission. I found this last night. Here's an update on my front axle if you can bear with me. I tapped the top plug on the left side of the front axle, opposite the dipstick, and installed a vent. I then cut the lawn for two hours, and did not have any signs of my front axle leaking anymore. I would recommend this to all you owners.

Went out to change the front tire, has a slow leak, found oil on the inside rim and tire, left front. Checked the axle oil level and it was down about 20 oz. How many people have had this happen? is this another problem with the BX? When I took the dip stick out, heard a rushing sound, so the front axle is not vented.
