BX 2200 Rough Starting

Dan, talk to the dealer my 2200 does the smoke part at the start up just like all do. Mine hasn't stalled yet just starts up and runs. Whos your dealer? both the local ones have treated me great so take it back to them. I haven't delt with Port Huron but can't complain about the ones in Dryden or Shelby. Both have been very good to me, haven't taken my tractor for service in Dyden but the parts guy has been topnotch to me and the sevice guy in Shelby (Dave) has been great on the couple of small items that needed attention. I'm in Shelby twp but keep the 2200 near Algonac.

Cheers

Tony

Your glow plugs aren't working. Try starting it with out them and you will see the same results I bet!

I think something is wrong. At 25 degrees i only use my glow plugs for 5 seconds and quarter throttle. Fires right up, smokes at first but them runs fine. Sounds like to much fuel or maybe like said before, glow plugs not working.

Sounds VERY FAMILIAR, Good luck. At least nobody is beating you up yet.

Tom,

I"m in Huntington. I got mine from Essex Equipment. Gary, the owner is pretty cool. Their service is good and they seem to know what they are doing / talking about.

Hazmat,

Block heater is substantially better than holding the glow plug for 20 seconds. My problem is, I don't have electricity at this time. I will next week. I'm talking about temperatures far below 35-40 degrees. We've seen 30 about twice in the last two months.......5 or 10 degrees is where you have a real serious problems and we regularly have 15-20 degree highs lately.

Yeah, I've heard the same and believe it. The last fuel I got was mixed for winter. I added some anti-gel stuff anyway. Apparently it didn't work. I'm just going to hold off on trying to start it until I can run my block heater again. Wow, what a difference that makes. I hate trying to start it without the block heater on for a few minutes....truely painful to watch her choke, gasp and grind.

I was wondering if using the glow plugs for a minute worked better than using them for 20 seconds.

Your 'bota is going to be much happier when it is plugged in and cozy!

My Kubota B6100 operators manual has a chart that shows how long you're supposed to hold the glow plugs on for certain temps. There was once a decal on the dash board too but that's long since worn off.

As I recall, the chart maxes out at 30 seconds for VERY cold temps...

Well after reading everyone's response, I gave my local dealer a call. It turns out that many of you were right on the nose. After ruling out thier fuel, we found the glow plugs were not cycling properly (or at all). The dealer has already taken care of the problem (same day service), and after about 10 sec of letting the glow plugs work it starts right up without stalling or running rough. I really appreciate everyones feedback and help in helping me clear this up. I'll even appreciate it more when I'm able to use the tractor to move snow instead of a shovel. Thanks!
