BX-2200 won't start

Re: BX-2200 won\'t start

This happened to me as well. First thing I was pull my dash apart thinking that it was the ignition switch. Once the brain acutal made it into a forward gear, I loosen the nut on the injector and cranked the engine. I saw that no fuel was running out. I followed the manual fuel kill switch back to the electric one. I saw that turning the key on and off made no difference. I simiply removed it and now us the manual until I get a new fuel kill switch.

Re: BX-2200 won\'t start

Dave,

Is the fuel pump running when you turn the key on? I had the same problem as you, no power when mowing. I changed the fuel filters and then could not get it started. The rubber boot on the drive shaft to the trans cooler came off, hit the wire to the fuel pump, and killed it. I rewired the pump, runs fine now.

Re: BX-2200 won\'t start

I will check that tonight (solenoid). Thank you. I also wanted to know if, by chance, the injector pump is airbound what would be the fix. Should I crack the nuts loose and run the electric pump until I see fuel? (The nuts on the individual metal fuel lines).
I have had problems in the past with water in the fuel. After a regimen of draining the tank and changing filters a I always use a "Mr. Funnel" that Bird had suggested. What I am wondering about is something I read in the owners manual. It mentions for a 500 hr service to have the fuel element changed by Kubota service. I knew about the two inline filters but where is this fuel filter element? Since I have have problems in the past with water in the fuel I am thinking this filter may have been prematurely clogged? (I have about 280 hrs).
Thanks,
Dave

Re: BX-2200 won\'t start

Tom,
The pump works fine with the key in the "on" position. The fact that this (wire knocked off) happened to your BX is very useful for all BX owners. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: BX-2200 won\'t start

You might disconnect the fuel line from where it connects to the motor and switch the key on to the position that makes the fuel pump activate (clicking sound) to see if you are getting fuel to the motor.
I had the pleasure of doing this last weekend from water in my fuel AGAIN - my fault, not using my Mr. funnel, I stopped by my local gas station and just pumping in their crappy fuel.
I am 20 minutes from a farm co-op. Now I am making the trip to the co-op, I am never going through that exercise again.

Re: BX-2200 won\'t start

All godd troubleshooting suggestions.

Unfortunately, these new BX's need electrics for running since they usean electric fuel pump and an electric fuel cutoff as opposed to the old manual kill choke & gravity feed/mechanical fuel pump.
I think techman's suggestions are right on.
You'll probably need to pull the engine cowling inorder to get easier access to the engine compartment.
1st thing I'd do is crack the fuel line at the solenoid/fuel control on the side of the engine then turn the key on, if your getting fuel then your filters and fuel pump (electric) are probably OK. Then I'd check the fuel solenoid as techman listed. Making sure it's plugged up and that it's getting power. If it is getting power but fails the continuity test then you've found your problem. If it isn't getting power then there might be a fuse or wiring problem. If it is getting power and it passes the continuity test then it may be in the fuel control.

If every thing checks out, including good fuel flow to the fuel control then crack the fuel feed lines at the injectors and crank until you see fuel under pressure escaping.

The fuel solenoid is a convenience item added to make shutdown more like an automobile (via the key switch) but it is necessary on the BX, you can't bypass it. Eliminating it isn't that much more trouble shooting but it does add additional electric trouble shooting into the equation.

Good luck

Re: BX-2200 won\'t start

Thanks. Does anyone here own a shop manual for the BX 2200? I would like to see what's involved in the solenoid change out. It looks strait forward but not sure if this solenoid has a plunger that shuts off fuel flow or ? I know the injection pump is capable of very high pressures. Want to know if I can safely R&R the solenoid. Where can I get the manual? Thanks.

Re: BX-2200 won\'t start

Your in luck, gsxr1100 posted a BX22/23 WSM on his web site that you can download for free. Most parts interchange and/or are similar. Do a search on him.

Re: BX-2200 won\'t start

All,
I apologize for not reporting back to you as soon as I "fixed" my problem. (Family went camping, no computers). I really appreciate all the advice and the culprit was that I did run the tank dry and sucked air into the injector pump. I cracked each fitting at the injector (not sure if all three were needed). As soon as I cracked the first one, and cranked the engine, I saw some white smoke (good sign). I continued cracking loose the fittings and cranked the engine. I could see air bubbles and waited for clear fuel. It hit a few times before the third and final injector bleeding. Then it purred and, quite honestly, has never run better. I learned alot. Thanks again all.
