I am trying to adjust the the mowing height on my deck but can't seem to adjust anything so evidently I am not doing it right. I know to move the wheels to the same position as I set the mowing height nob however I want to move from 3" height to 4" height. Instructions say there should be small space between wheels and flat surface. The wheels touch no matter how much I adjust the 2 bolts on the deck (the ones that are where the back part of the deck raises and lowers). Any suggestions or am I not even doing it correctly?

Thanks

The bolts on the back of the deck assist in leveling the deck. The cutting height is adjusted by the knob below the seat. The deck wheels are adjusted by the pins thru their shaft. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. What does it mean in the owners manual that the deck wheels should be up to 13mm off the ground when the deck is let down to desired position? Mine touch the ground which I am assuming is wrong since the book tells me different. Do you ever adjust the bolts once it is level? just use the knob and the wheels to put to desired position? The bolts are for adjusting left and right rear level? What do you do to adjust front level and what is used to adjust the front height? Should front of mower deck be higher than back, if so, by how much?

The bx deck is suspended so wheels do not touch ground but can still roll above grass. are you having a problem with your deck?

I believe front should be slightly lower than rear of deck... this is adjusted by the 2 nuts on the bracket that hooks onto the front of the deck.
once your deck is level, you set mowing height with knob below front of seat.
then set wheels to be just off the ground when deck is lowered to mowing height. If you decide to mow to a higher or lower setting, then you should re-adjust the wheel height accordingly. It would be prudent after all this to check the distance from the ground to the cutting edge of the blades on both sides, with deck lowered... should be whatever your cutting height knob is set to.
the deck levelling adjustments should not need to be touched again unless at some point you suspect things are not level.

If I'm wrong on this, I'm sure someone will chime in and set us straight.

yes...The wheels touch the ground when on a flat surface. That is why I think something is wrong but don't know how to fix it

The holes on the wheels correspond to a setting on the adjustment knob. When I put it on 3.5 and the wheels in the 3.5 hole the wheels touch the ground before the deck completes lowering. This doesn't seem right to me. If I read the owners manual correctly, the deck position should equal the wheel positions and when lowered the wheels should be between 5mm and 13mm off the ground. Mine touch before the deck is lowered to the desired cutting height.

If you hang your mower up on the "top" setting, does it stay there? Can you lower your 3ph at that point? Is your height adjustment knob solid or can you wiggle it all over the place? If you raise the wheels, does the mower still go down to the ground so they touch?

If you answer "No" to the first 2 questions and "Yes" to the 3rd and 4th, your mower height control might be broken off the frame like mine was. I hope not.

You could shorten your lift arms if it just needs an adjustment to make the wheels and setting match. Then lengthen or shorten the front arms to adjust for level.

I can raise it up and it will stay there. Three point hitch will raise and lower even after mower stops going down. Height adjustment knob does not wiggle. To number 4, yes, but aren't they suppose to do that? That's is how you take the mower off.

Wheels dont touch the ground during normal operation, only contact to prevent scalping. If you push the AS wheels all the way up in their housing (or remove them completely from the deck) the deck should float at set height with no ground contact. If there is any wheel to ground contact when the wheels are completely raised something is broken in the height system. Adjust the height setting knob with the deck raised all the way up.Dont rely on deck or manual markings for setting anti-scalp wheel height, get the deck set to desired cut height (and leveled) then position the wheels at whatever height gives ~13mm ground clearance. Decks can be warped.

Deck is leveled R-L using the 19mm (?) bolts on the rear lifting arms. Before doing this, set the deck to the desired mowing height (3" for example).

To do a good job you really need the Deere deck gauge. Best $8 spent

The leading edge of the deck (blades) should be ~1/4-1/2 below the rear. Set this using the 2 large nuts (22mm??) on the front mount.

This may be irrelevant, but the mark on the deck is not in the right place, so your actual deck height may not be exactly where the marks line up; we use ours only as a general guide.

In the past, I have found it hard to get everything level once you start adjusting the lift linkage and had to break out my calipers and a lot of trial and error to get everything right after my front bracket nuts loosened.

As mentioned, decks can be warped, so our wheels are not all the exact same height when the blades are set properly for a good, even cut.
