Yep, you have to work with a little grace using a BX. They do a great job, but patience is a virtue. If you get too agressive with the BH, it will drag you all over the yard:D

I actually enjoy the slower pace, it's the only time I'm alone with my thoughts...That's actually kinda scary.:confused3:

I've dug quite a few big roots with my BX, I am no newbie at this. When I bought the B3700SU the salesman (from whom I purchased my first Kubota in 1985 and three others subsequently) suggested that I clamp the L3700s FEL down on the loader of the BX-24 and the BX would not get pulled into the hole.

I have the ratchet rake on my front bucket and put a large rock in it. The teeth dig into the ground and it anchors the front much better. The BH can still pull the machine around, but every lit bit helps in anchoring the machine.
The rock makes the ratchet rake work great in the "float" position for manicuring the drive.

Arrgh, another "the salesman said"...
Does the salesman own either or both model of tractor, and has he personally done this himself? Probably not. Whether it's tractors or TVs, I've found that most salespeople are full of all sort of ideas about how other people should use a product, when it's no skin off their back.
Not unlike how the people who've never raised a kid are usually the ones who want to give you all sorts of parenting advice.
[/soapbox]

This is just a poor suggestion. Loading the BX FEL bucket is much simpler and less likely to damage anything, and why scratch up your new tractor when you simply don't have to. ;)

As far as technique, try to do more of your digging/ripping with the bucket and consciously not crowd the boom or dipper in. Like IslandTractor said, even bigger rigs have similar issues.
