As others have noted, this is the winter for snow (at least in the NE). My wife has said a hundred times "sure was a good year to get a new tractor".

Our latest 22" was taken in stride by the BX-22/front blower. Doing the 2100' driveway, 10' wide took about 1 1/2 hours. The vinyl cab and remote chute controls really make the job, well almost fun. If it weren't for the 10 degree temperature, it would have been no hassle at all.

For all you guys with 3PT blowers, how do drive that much looking over your shoulder (with a big job) ? The extra for the Kubota front mount was worth it to me. The cab really shined as we had 30 to 40 MPH winds in the latter part of the storm. Keeping the wind blown snow off is a big difference in comfort.

As for as the BX, it does a spectacular job. The 4WD and bar tires go anywhere in the snow. There was no problem making turns in the virgin snow. I have yet to mount the rear chains I bought. They may rust in the bag at this rate, as traction is no problem. I have not even used the diff lock in the snow yet.

I will try to get some PIX soon of the workhorse. Also I was glad I filled a 50 gal drum with fuel oil in November at $ 0.96 Around here oil is up to $ 1.60 and diesel is over $ 1.80. Nice going back to the shed to fill up, knowing there is enough there for the season.

Paul, I hear ya...my BX-22 did a terrific job on "our" 22" of white stuff south of you in Bucks County. (The FEL in my case) I forgot to call my brother in Honesdale to see what they got, but at least he doesn't have to plow anything now that he lives in town...

I'm also glad for the bar tires...and glad I took the turfs back right after I bought the tractor!

techman,

Sounds like you've got a nice set-up there.

I have a 3 pt. blower on my B-2910, but I don't have anywhere near as much area as you've got to clear.

I do a couple of 100' runs, some 50' runs and a 350' sidewalk. Depending upon which neighbor needs to be cleared out, I'll help them too. Most driveways are less than 75', double-width. Driving backwards isn't too much of a problem. I sit a little sideways in the seat, that's all. Plus for my situation, I need the front loader to "get in close" to the house and garage.

If I had to clear as much as you I might opt for the front mount as well.

My driveway is up hill, so I need the tirechains on my R-4's. The first year I had the tractor, didn't have the snowblower or chains yet, I had a few sliding "episodes. I had more of a problem working downhill than up. I felt the added surefootedness of the chains were well worth it, and I still think they are a good addition. Traction is rarely a problem now...up hill or down.

Your cab and remote chute controls are a nice touch. Someday, I might try to adapt a temporary snowshield to my folding ROPS. The remote chute controls are nice, too. Someday....

The tractor sure does make winter a lot more fun. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The 3-pt snow blower and FEL combination is the best set up for snow removal. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifI had a front mounted snowblower and cab on my Ingersol 446. The FEL is great for close in work. I rescued about 15 large wheeled trashcans from the 4-foot high snow banks. Just a few scoops and they were free. I guess if you have no close in work, or real long driveway, or are prone to stiff necks, a front mount is OK. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I know I have said it a million times, BUT, that golf cart enclosure made snowblowing fun! BX owners should seriously look into getting a cab for the small investment of $100 it is well worth it. I had no problem with the turf tires, I did not get stuck at all. Perhaps because the blower removes the snow to the pavement providing good traction. Now could we get one more snowstorm like we just had in March????? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
