BX FEL Testdrive

I could be wrong, but my recollection is that the way the 4way valve affects the fel function is that is adds a far right position to the joystick, which gives a "fast dump" capabilty. (Look at your BX loader sticker on your fel; it should show the far right position if you have the 4 way valve.) It has nothing to do with the ability to float the loader. The non-fel uses of the 4th position would be for something like controlling the angle of a hydraulic snow blade.

I would say definitely get the 4 way valve. It only adds about 40 bucks at purchase time, but costs about 500 later. I know, because I was sold a 3 way on my 2910 because "thats what they had in stock" and I didnt know any better.

The one I drove (so I assume the one I am getting) has left and right controlling the curl of the bucket. Forward and backward lift and lowers it. FAR forward it locks in to position and floats. I guess that is the 4 way but I will ask.
Is that all of the positions your tractors have or is there a far right too?

Knowing the RPM range for best operation is ok, but you got to develop a feel for the machine instead. Better to feel the right engine speed then to be looking at the RPM guage all the time. For the most part, I never get above half throttle, most of the time.

Yes, Glenmac is correct and we covered this on another thread a few months ago. I just got confused--thanks for setting me straight. Page. 15 of the FEL op manual says that the 4 way valve has a two stage dump -- "moving the lever to the Right is the regular dump position and ------the second dump position further to the right has greater speed. ---seperated by a Feel position.
Again, sorry I got my wires crossed --the 4 way is useful though as I said on front implements. J

TresCrows,

If you're gonna be the High Priest of the BX cult, you're gonna have to memorize the bible. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif As penance, you must say 25 Hail Kubotas. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

What RPM gauge. ;^)
I guess I'm just getting the 3 way valve. The dealer said the 4 way is only usefull if you get a quick hitch for a plow or blower etc.
BTW, (you guys who remember my old ordeal will find this funny).
After telling the dealer umpteen times that I want it strapped not chained to the trailer for its shipment to the dealer to get the FEL installed, The guy showed up with only chains. He claims that straps can't hold a big tractor like the BX.
(sure they wont) whatta ya gonna do...
I called the dealer and told him that he brought chains but that it was ok. I talked him in to giving me the AGs even up for the turfs. That saved me $300. Good enough, at least the new chain gouges will hide the ones they put on when they delivered it in the first place.
Also he promised to switch the 3 way for the 4 way for the cost difference ($70) if I find that I ever need it. Said he's confident that the old valve will be clean like new and well cared for, not rusty. Imagine that! :^)
