That is weird. I have some buddies that work on the big trucks and do it all the time. Even when I had my Powerstroke, the head diesel guy had to do some on there 7.3L. He has also seen some tips fail...

I do agree to check the plugs with a good meter and see the resistance. The only problem on some engines is the the plugs are a pain to get too. The BX's are external which is nice.

If I have to glow my BX22 for more then 5 to 7 seconds, something is very wrong.

Yes I can see where that would be a problem. Myself, being a stay at home father of a four year old, a two year old and a four month old it is real easy to just stand at the front window holding a cup of coffee and thank God I don't have to go out into the weather. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif My wife has mentioned that it does get cold out though.

As far as the glow plugs. My 96 ford powerstroke became a real bear to start in the cold after it was five or so years old. Anything below twenty degrees and I had to use the heater. Took it in and they replaced four glow plugs and the control unit. After that it has started, without the heater, no matter what temp I try it at...

Although you might notice from above that sometimes I don't try when it is real cold /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

There are places and times where cold may prevail for days on end and clearing snow cannot be deferred.

Picture is from 10 years ago in Alberta with the temperature at -35Centigrade. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yowza!! If i remember right, it seems to me that -35 C is darn near the very same as -35 in F.

Either way, little too cold for for me. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Still don't think I would need a block heater though because if I lived in an area like that I would make sure to have some kind of heated garage /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And a condo in the Yucatan.

FWIW, my Case DX24E has a dash light that stays on for about 5 seconds, then goes off at which point you are supposed to start. I do have block heater I keep plugged in and it fires right up even if it sits for a week /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I also have a Battery Tender plugged in so the battery is ready to R&R.

you are correct , they are the same at -40deg. and that is way to cold for this old man to do anything but sit in the house and play on computer. But it nver gets that cold here -5 or -10 is usually as cold as it gets and not all that often.

( So I would add the question: Are BX tractors generally harder to start when cold than other Kubota tractors? )

I am going to say yes. This afternoon with another 5" or 6" of snow to move when I got home from work I went to start the BX and it was a no go at 17 degrees. Plug in the block heater for an hour and off we go. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

There must be something about it that makes it harder to start. Like you, I have treated my winter blend fuel with Powerstroke 911 and the fuel was fresh. Maybe the glow plugs don't get quite as hot as the B series? I just don't know! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Last weekend, the glow plug was not the problem for me in NE PA with single digit temps. Being new to Tractors (other than my 22 yr old Gravely) and Diesel Fuel, I did not knowthat the stuff turns to near candle wax. I couldn't get my 7510 statred until I added some product called "Diesel 911" and an AntiGel Product to the to the fuel and solidified fuel bowl. Live and learn.

( Henro,
I agree with you that the BX is harder to start in colder weather than a B series. That has been my experience as well. My previous B2410 generally started without difficulty in cold weather. I did not have a block heater and would only need to engage the glow plugs for 5 to 6 seconds.

With my BX23 I usually have to crank it several times to start. I will keep the glow plugs on for about 10 seconds and it struggles to start. With this past snow and 10 degree F weather I became worried that the BX23 would not turn over. Fortunately, after several attempts it started.

Like others have noted the electronic clock tick noise that the BX makes with the battery - glow plugs engaged gives you the feeling you are rapiudly draining your battery. )

Why did you move down from the B2410 to the BX23?

Which one do you like the best?

I was going to get the B2410 but changed my mind and got the BX23.
