BX Grass catcher - new vs old version

Mine doesn't fall over, but when you see the setup you have to ask yourself, "What were they thinking!" The entire unit is not up to Kubota quality. The one thing that really burns me is the way the legs are stowed for operation. One leg turns inward and fits snugly under the collector. But the other one (left side) is stowed so the leg points outward. This creates one helluva a shin cracker when you come around the back to unload the bags, which by the way are grossly undersized for what the unit is capable of doing. It could be a great leaf collector in the fall, but you can't go more than 50 feet before all three bags are filled.

I'm pretty happy with the quality, but I agree about the legs.

I think it would have been better if it was designed so when you mounted the catcher on the tractor, you pull the pins and slide the legs down and out - just remove them altogether until you put them back for dismounting the catcher. I suppose some would disagree, because storing them on the unit ensures that you always know where they are, but if the leg was a little shorter you'd have the option. That is, sliding them up and pinning and leaving on the unit for storage or sliding them down and off and getting them completely out of the way.

I wonder if I could just cut a bit off the top of the legs, I'll have to look at that next spring...

I get pretty could holding capacity. When I'm "vacuuming" leaves in the fall they really shred up well for me. I think between the leaves getting shredded by the blades and the catcher fan on the way to the bags...

Agree on size...but...marketed as grass not leaf catcher. Engineers had to size bags based on weight not volume, otherwise some idiot would overload bigger bags w/wet grass, lose steering control, wreck, and sue Kubota...

I only use for leaves, and to compensate for size, I vac more often, and stop when bags first fill to top, push leaves down and get another 1/3 to 1/2 bagful...

Bought mine this fall, and knowing it would go on a cart when off the tractor, I got to work. First picked up a cheap chainfall, got some vinyl coated 3/16'' cable, made 3 pcs. of adjustable lashing out of it for three picking points on the unit, hung the hoist from a strong rafter (not much weight to pick), attached the lashing to the unit and gathered the other end into the hook. Started picking and adjusting the cables in their clamps till unit picked off tractor without binding, and built a cart to roll it around. Slip the bucket forks on and carry the whole thing CAREFULLY to storage shed. Can get pics. of the lashing if interested.

Lets see some pics

I have had mine for a couple years (w/legs) and always curse the day when I have to change , to put the rear blade or Back hoe.

I didn't even use it this year , 'cause I had the BH on
