My BX2200 just hit 50 hours and I did the oil change last night. The specs say the capacity is 2.6 quarts, but I drained out a little over 3 even though the dipstick showed fine. I replaced the filter and filled the crankcase, and I'll be if it didn't take all of three quarts to get her midway between the dots on the dipstick. I'm guessing that it would take another half quart to get it completely full. Anyone else with this experience??? I wonder if I have the wrong dipstick in it.

The other thing is that I filled my baby with Amsoil 15W-40 (and the Amsoil filter). One of the mechanics told me I could extend the time between oil changes if i want...Any thoughts on that? Makes me nervous.....

I found the same thing with the oil...took approx 3.5 quarts.
I mentioned it when I was at the dealer, but they said they
never noticed it, and didn't have anyone else say anything.

I'm with you guys. I changed my oil this past weekend and, like you, noticed that 2.6 quarts took the fluid half way up between the two dots on the dip stick. I'm hesitant to add more, believing that this is where it should be. Admittedly, I don't remember where it was when I first took delivery, so I can't be 100% sure.

I just changed the oil in my BX2200 at 52 hours. It took about 3.5 quarts to read full on the dip stick. Same thing in my wife's 98 Cad Deville. The book calls for 7.5 quarts with filter, but it takes 8.5 quarts to show full on the stick. The HST calls for 2.7 gals and this was about what it took to show full on the dip stick. I used the Super UDT in case anyone is interested. I know there has been a lot of discussion about the difference in the two grades of Oil. The filters were very reasonable in cost. About five bucks each. One of the Internet sites for parts has the wrong part number on the HST filter for the BX. One Dealer tried to sell me a HST filter that cost over $32.00. I declined the offer because of the information on this board, I knew the filter should be under $10.00. It appears they were trying to sell me a filter for a B7500. Thought this info might help someone else when making their purchases. I did buy the filters and oil from my dealer because I expect him to warranty my tractor.

I'd like to know where to keep the oil on the stick also? I am wondering if the 2.6 qts includes filter. The manual says that the oil level is acceptable between the marks, so is more oil better (full) or continue to run somewhere in between the marks? Also Is Amsoil good oil? I know a lot of truckers swear by it or Rotella ./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

I just did my first 50 hr maintenance and agree on the 3 qt requirement to fill. I measured what I drained and it was the same. The transmission drain was over 3 gallon too.

By the way, since there are a lot of us doing the 50 hr service now, I’d suggest checking the metal transmission strainer at the 50 hr service rather than waiting. Others have reported finding metal when they do, so I decided to check mine and found it had collected metal filings that I had to cleaned out.

I'm here in Canada and only have 9 hours on the new BX. The local dealer gave us a great deal and mentioned that they will do the initial servicing at 20 hours to make sure everything is working fine. This initial service is free. After that he suggested the 50 hour intervals. He said they would use whatever oil we wanted.....any suggestions keeping in mind it's not as hot here and I also don't want to suggest ehy use some ultra expensive synthetic oil....unless that's the norm. I haven't looked in the book to see what's recommended.

Is Amsoil any good?--would not touch that question with a 10 foot pole. Mobil 1 is a good oil--for me. Your question regarding the oil level on the dipstick. It is perfectly acceptable and normal for the oil level to be at the halfway point. When I changed mine out at 50 and 100 it came out at the half way point. I, of course, use Mobil 1. I once did a test with my Fluke meter on an air cooled engine with regular quality oil and then Mobil 1. Cylinder Head Temps were noticeably lower with Mobil 1. This is caused by several things, not wanting to oversimplify, but one of them is reduced friction. I also notice my bike, liquid cooled, runs cooler on the water temp--immediantly--after switching to Mobil 1 after breakin change. J

So you are saying wait for the 100 hr service before changing to the synthetic oil?

Put the synthetic oil in from the start. You will not hurt anyting. The breakin hours is a good one! I have never waited for the breakin in any engine(s) I have had/have and never have had any problems. I use Amsoil 15w-40 in my Powerstroke Diesel from 23 miles (to get it home). Now has over 60,000 miles and burns 1/2 quart oil during the 10,000 mile oil drains. I will not get into all my other equipment but it will not hurt anything. It might take 20% longer to do the "break in" but who cares? Less wear means less % of failure = money saved in long run. All the parts will burn in and run right.
Now that I started the good-old oil wars here we go.....

Thanks
Mike
