BX2350
This past weak I done the 300 hr. service on my BX2350 changing all the fluids and filters. When I installed the new Kubota oil filter I had noticed that it didn't feel quite right going on. So I removed it and gave it a quick look over and didn't notice anything unusual with it. So I reinstalled it after all it is a genuine Kubota part. I started the tractor up with out the front end on and checked for leaks, no problem. Reinstalled the hood and brush bar and started it up again and let it run for few minutes. Then I noticed oil dumping out on the floor so I quickly shut it off. The new oil filter had blown loose. I then removed the filter and gave it a closer examination. Threads on the filter mount looked good but the threads on the filter were flat 3/4 of the way around. I did not have a nother filter and didn't want to drive all the way to the dealer so I picked up a couple of Wix filters at local auto parts store. After comparing the filter that had blown off with the new Wix and the Kubota filter that I had removed. It was clear that the threads were not machined right. I checked the threads with a pitch gauge and the pitch was fine, just they were less than half the depth 3/4 away around the hole. I guess quality control missed that one. I thought I would post this so others might take a closer look when changing filters. The Wix filter number is 51365 and looks to be of a lot better quality. Here are some pics of the filters I don't know if there good enough to see the threads.

What part# is the Kubota filter you have?
It should be HH15032430 KUBOTA.

Maybe you have the wrong filter. I can't tell from the last picture, but they appear different in size.

I've used the napa 1064 filters on the last 4 oil changes with no problems,I paint them kubota gray first!

If you type in the Kubota part number on the opening page search then the Wix part will be shown. That is, if it exists.

OK, the BX24 calls for Kubota HH150-32430. The Wix cross reference comes up with 51365 (same as the BX2350). There is not enough savings over either filter to make a meaningful difference given the time between filter changes. They are between $7 and $8.

#1 reason to stay OEM. If you have a Kubota filter and it fails, Kubota will buy you a new engine. If you use a Wix filter, will they? We had a New Holland TN in last year with a Napa filter on it, the inside colapsed and the owner ended up having to put a new engine in a 3 month old tractor... had they spent the extra $2 on a CNH filter it would have been an easy warrenty repair. I don't know if they ever got a claim filed with Napa.

I went and purchased OEM Kubota oil filters when I did my 50 hour service change and it was stamped right on the filter "Made in China"

Messick - will they still cover Chinese JUNK like this too??? Hard to believe that Kubota would farm out their OEM equipment manufacturing to a Chinese source.....but they did.

Kubota Corporate is in Japan. Maybe there is a bi-lateral agreement between the two foreign exchanges... :D

CRBR.....

Junk is JUNK, and it's usually "Made in China" thats junk! If I have to pay the OEM prices for Kubota brand name products it better not be made in China!

Plain and simple from my perspective, agreement or not......

That is also why I buy Kubota filters from Messicks. Shipping is an unnecessary expense (for the customer that is - not them). But several filters for several applications are purchased at once to try to reduce the relative shipping costs.

There is not enough difference in price to use off brands unless you are in a hurry as was the case with the OP.

If Kubota farms out filters to China it won't matter as far as the warranty goes. If it says "Kubota" on it then they have to stand behind it. Not that it makes any of us out here feel any better. Having a warranty issue is a pain in the rear no matter the cause.

If the Chinese filters were causing Kubota to replace engines they would not continue having them made there.

I wonder if my dealer will reimburse me for the two and a half quarts of oil that hit the floor and the defective filter. Or is it my fault that I did not heed the warning when the new filter felt looser than normal going on? I don't think I will push the subject with my dealer they have always treated me very well. I will still buy all the other filters and oil from them but I will stick with WIX oil filters from now on. Lesson learned.

I just went out to the garage and checked my filters...they look fine. Can you get better pictures of your filter that failed?? It looks as if the threads are not cut into one side very well??

Thanks,
Deano

A few years ago I thought I'd do the save money on filters thing. I went to some auto parts stores to find filters for Kubotas. Glad I had plenty of time. When they (several employees) finally found a number that they thought might work it was about the same price as going to Barlows and telling Gary I needed a filter and he walks over and lays it on the counter. I don't do the filter shopping any more. When I was younger in the 50s-60's the biggest joke was anything made in Japan was cheap junk. Today, if it's from China it's junk and from Japan it's the best. Wonder how or the timing of those transitions happen, from junk to great?:) Will from China one day become great and will we really be aware of when it happens, if it does? Don't get me wrong, I use the Chinese junk statement alot, just like I used to use the Japanese junk statement back when it was. Japanese cars killed VW Beetles. When Toyota and Datsun (Nissan) made a car that had heaters, good gas mileage and would run circles around a VW the end was near. Does China make any good products? Bet you don't know what all you have that was made or has parts made in China. Times change, good or bad.
