I prefer the Deere style "twin touch" pedals. I don't prefer them enough to buy a green machine but if I could put together my own, it would have them.

Has anyone seriously looked into re-designing the BX pedals to mimic this? I don't think I'm qualified to design and build such a system so I'd be more likely to buy a kit if someone came out with one.

What I actually do most of the time is only use the forward pedal. I put my foot underneath it and pull up for reverse. This is easier to do for short distances than lift leg and foot up and reposition to the rear pedal.

Don't take me the wrong way, I am not complaining it is too hard, but I just simply see room for improvement. If you run both machines one after another, I think the vast majority would choose the side by side pedals. I have operated a wide variety of equipment and I think about ergonomics a lot.

For people that aren't sure what I'm talking about... click here: Hydrostatic (HST) transmission with Twin Touch™ foot controls

It appears Mahindra also uses this design... http://static.fastline.com/assets/item/065/143/4178078e-cfdb-4eab-91e6-9e08cffbf624.jpg

Walker 450,
Bet if someone had a kit they would sell a bunch, I have a buddy who is a john deere guy, just purchase a kubota 2650, and he tells me all the time that he wishes it had the twin pedals. He likes the tractor otherwise.

I think there are advantages and disadvantages to either style of forward/reverse pedals.

For my Kubota B7800 I actually like the toe/heel pedal better.
The heel pedal for reverse is especially nice for snow blowing with my rear mount snow blower.
I'm able to spin around in the seat more, to look rearward, because of the heel pedal's location.
This is also true when working with my rear mount blade and pushing material in reverse.

I have the side by side twin touch style pedals on my Husqvarna mower, and for mowing with the Husqvarna, I like the side by side twin touch pedals better.

I agree. Personally I like the toe/heel design. For one, my size 13 winter boots don't fit so well on the side-by-side pedals. Yes, the heel pedal is WAY nicer for long stretches backing up. The other, and biggest reason, is it's absolutely impossible to confuse which pedal is which direction

Not too sure about the "vast majority" preferring twin pedals, we have John Deere and Kubota and we prefer the Kubota. There is a reason there are different designs.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. I envision a modification to leave the original reverse pedal in place and functional. I agree it is in a better spot if you are turned around looking backwards for extended periods of time.

I have a B3350 which is the same tractor as your buddy's. I prefer the single "rocker" pedal. Easy to use and intuitive, requires a minimum of foot movement as compared to two individual pedals.

My Grand L has a pedal that's close to the best of both worlds. The top (forward) is wider than the bottom (reverse). You can either toe/ heal operate it or (like I do) slide my foot and just use my toe. Would this work for you? I can't see it being hard to convert a Kubota pedal to add this.

Oh, so now you want to "eat your cake and have it too!".. :D (actually that sounds like a pretty cool idea)

I noticed on a couple of John Deere models, they have solved the "which side should the brake peddles be on argument" by putting a single peddle on the right that hits both brakes and twin peddles on the left for individual steering brakes.

My Deere GX335 has side by side pedals. In winter with the plow mounted my winter boot actually hits both pedals at the same time with protest. I deliberately have to put the toe of my boot on the forward pedal to make sure my foot is not on both. The only confusion I have is when I use the Deere first, then get on the Kubota where my foot seems to wander to the right searching for the reverse pedal. But other than that, if both tractors are used each day I get used to what it takes to go forward or backward. I wish no changes to either machine.

My 2014 B3350 cab has that style pedal as well, with the forward part of the pedal having an extension to the right (viewed from operator position). So maybe Kubota has standardized on that design?

I find it easy to pull up with the toe for a short reverse movement or I'll move foot to the back part when I have further to go in reverse or when turning in seat to look over shoulder. Both areas of the pedal seem well placed, and are intuitive and easy to become accustomed to.

So do you have a small foot by chance? Because I could never come close to fitting my size 11.5 boots underneath the treadle, and I also find that very little motion is needed to go back and forth between toe on the front of the treadle or heel on the back. If the issue is just foot size, I'd be inclined to think you should modify the current treadle to make it easier to properly heel-toe it.

BTW, having owned and operated equipment with both types of arrangements, I don't think it matters either way for me. Once I get into the groove, the pedal/treadle arrangement becomes transparent. My worst problem is getting back into my car/truck at the end of the day, and trying to get into reverse by stomping my heel or shifting my foot sideways ....

My feet have never been characterized as dainty, size 11-4E :c)

There's 4 1/2" between pedal and floor, and the offset in the forward pedal extends outboard by 3 1/2 inches. I guess it would be tough to get a bunny boot under there, but since the tractor cab has heat, and I'm not in AK, don't need bunny boots!

I posted in another thread speculating on the design of next gen BX's that a salesman told me a few weeks ago, the next BX will have side-by-side pedals. Just a rumor at this point, but assuming they do make this change, perhaps the parts would retro to your machine. Time will tell if the salesman was right and if it's backwards compatible.

Or trying to flick the signal light lever thinking it's the shuttle shift? I couldn't even count how many times I've done that lol

I must confess when I had the Kubota with the treadle peddle and used it heavily day after day, I can remember a time or two of getting in my truck and stomping my heel to try to get the truck to go in reverse. Just for a split second, but sometimes it seems your muscles have a mind of their own.
