BX Tire Alternatives?

cpicton1, no need for an apology, you did nothing wrong, gosh, I was just ribbing you back /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif . Good thing you guys don't work with me. Last night, I glued one guys toolbox to the floor with aerospace epoxy. I set my supervisors watch ahead 1 hour, I tuffted (small fuzzy yarns used for aerodynmamic testing) another guys roll around, I told another guy who is easy to get going that all the crew for the prototype had recieved special leather jackets but we had been told to take them to the car so no body could see them--he nearly went ape and ran around carrying on so it was hilarious, and before leaving I applied a very nice rainbow decal to the license plate of my boss (he is very homophobic). All in all a grand night of trickery and treachory while I have also stirred up a huge and ongoing discussion of evolution vs creationism--very funny to have all these mechanics bringing me books with really big words in them and they have actually read them all for the purpose of showing me up--I love it when a plan comes together. Not sure what my next topic will be but I want something having nothing to do with religion but which will get people reading--any suggestions?
I vote for the ags for the BX and probably for the JD2210 also. The tires I have seen on it do not look much better than the BX turfs. J

Tres,

I hesitate to suggest it, but what about politics? I guess for some people, it's the equivalent of religion.

With all of your extracurricular activity, do you have time for anything that might be construed as your job? Or perhaps your job description includes "court jester"?

TresCrows, glad your not upset.
Your workplace sounds like a blast. Has any of your coworkers ever cought on and returned the favor?

Back to tires. The only problem I've had with my bar tires is thorns. I mow an area in the country that has an abundance of Thorny Locust trees. Of course the thorns don't stay on the trees like I wish they would. The thin skins of the BX bar tires puncture easily. I use to mow this area with a John Deere with turfs and they didn't fare any better. I use Green Slim in my tires and that works great. Wouldn't leave home without it.

TresCrows,
Sounds like you work where I do. Best was one guy was on vacation. We turned his box around, slapped a SnapOn sticker on it, and drew some lines. Glued a lock to it also. He came in, put his key in and snapped off the "lock". Trys to open the drows, and finly figured out what we did. Then there is anti size under the handles. Thats a fav of ours. Got to have fun at work somehow./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Oh and I got AG's on my Ingersoll, and love them. [got to keep a little on topic/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif]

Darn, that was a great trick. Someone put a mouse in mine, I jumped nearly 20 feet high. All in all, I never get one up-ed but that was close. I try to keep people thinking about other things so that work goes faster, we get it done and do a great job and have fun too, I have quite the rock collection from all over the company that people bring me to identify for them. Another time I decided we would have Tacky Velcro Shoe Thursday. I got everyone to buy cheap velcro white shoes, it was very much a hit and we got such odd looks.

That is one problem with the BX ags I do admit, they seem to puncture fairly easy. If punctures are a problem then the R4 tires may be the best bet. I have heard of guys here on TBN having the tires foam filled but it is heavy and expensive. Maybe someone knows more about this alternative. So far the R4 tires do seem impervious to punctures. I did get two flats with my BX ags but they were easily repaired good as new. J

The dealer is going to swap out the turfs for the bar-turfs on Friday. I do have to pay for some labor for their staff to take the new tires off a machine at their shop (they don't stock them separate), but I have no problem with that. I'll just put the hoe back on to use the "built in jacks" and the FEL to raise the machine and swap the tires. (With proper static support under the machine during the process, of course)

I think I'll order the parts for Walt's nify 3pt linkage modification while I'm there, too. It's only money...<G>

I think you will be happy with your decision to change to the bar tires. You will also benefit by getting good traction in the snow without the use of chains. They will give your BX that tough tractor look. Good luck.

I hear that "Tim the Toolman" sound...arh arh arh!...cooing over the "tough tractor look"! hee hee

At any rate, traction is what I'm shooting for, particularly with FEL work. This BX-22 "seems" to have more get-up and go than my BX-2200 did (probably my imagination, but SWMBO noticed, too), so whatever it has, I'd like to take advantage of it when I sink that bucket into a big pile of whatever.

Jim, just wondering if your new tires are on? If so, what do you think?

Excellent! Don't forget to check you tire pressures. When I got mine back from the dealer they were WAY out.
