Thanks for the reminder on the parking brake.
It was not on, however. When it is, that tractor won't BUDGE!

Won't BUDGE !? That's a comment not heard often on this board, at least that I can remember. The BX is notorious for it's ability to be driven with the brake engaged. ... any chance the previous owner adjusted the brake linkage to the point that it is making the brake drag all the time?

Dunno.
But you can bet it will be checked this week-end.
Thanks.

I have a BX1500 w/~30 hrs. on it. In 4lo pushing limbs into my burn pile it. When the tires start spinning, thats usually my indication to stop pushing. Clay soil, St. Augustine grass. Industrial tires (not turfs, not lugs). To be honest I dont recall if I'm using full throttle or not when I do that. Now on the other hand, where I park my tractor, I have to drive up onto a 3"-4" slab. The only way to get up there is 4lo about half throttle. In reverse, about 3/4 throttle.

Have been able to load a loader so that the wheels wouldn't spin in low but it does take a lot. Normally high range is the weakest and won't spin even when you might expect it to.

Since spinning the tires is wasted energy and is hard on tires, as well as other things,I would think that a well setup tractor would have the pressure relief valve set to not do wild spinning under normal conditions. I know it is a man thing to be able to dig big ruts with all 4-tires at any time. I don't think it's a lack of HP. Kubota has done adequate testing and know what they are doing. Just my 2 cents.

Mine have spun (one wheel) in dirt but never encountered a situation on grass /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I usually can spin 3 turf tires as well with my bx2200.

Maybe a fluid and filter change are in order. My performance improved noticeably after I changed the hydro fluid.

I'll second the comments about keeping engine rpm's up. When I bought my bx2230, the dealer explained that the hydro pump on the bx series does not put out much flow at lower rpm's. Basically, they are meant to run at full throttle or near to it.

That's supported by my experience with the loader and 3pt, both of which are sluggish until you goose the throttle.

The comments about feathering the hydro pedal back are also right on.

My 2230 will walk up a standard street curb like it isn't there, pulling a load... don't ask how I know this.

Although the BX is much heavier than a lawn/garden tractor and will not be as prone to wheel spin, it does sound to me like your 1500 is on the sluggish side. If you have a hyd. problem or something binding the drive train, you should see the hyd fluid getting real hot under load. Any signs of that?

Thanks for the response, and the tips. This weekend I will check it all:Brakes, RPM, fluid temp. I may have only had the throttle up to 1/2 or 3/4. I really think the brake was totally released.
I prolly did not have the throttle wide open. I will check all of this and post Saturday or Sunday for those interested.
