BX1800 / 2200 - towing capacity?

You should have no problem pulling/pushing that trailer. I moved a 56 ft mobile home up a slight grade using my Long Landtrac 360 (36hp). Just keep it in low range and it should move it just fine.

The BX is very manuverable, not quite like a standard lawn tractor, it is 1200 lbs plus another 500 for the FEL and another 250 or so for the 60 inch MMM. I think it will do fine for you, I have beds and plantings also and the BX with 60 inch MMM does well and is also able to circle mulched out trees. The inside diameter--diameter of the uncut circle if memeory serves is about 30 inches or maybe a bit more with the 60 and a bit more with the 54 inch. I would get the 60 inch because you can cut in closer and stick it into corners better and it is easier to circle trees etc.
The best way for you to see for yourself is a test ride. Me and whoever and a stack of brochures will not convince you till you twirl the hunky BX around with your pinky finger even with a loaded FEL. Go see for yourself and yes the FEL snaps on and off in a --well--snap!! and no, my opinion you cannot possibly need anything bigger with but 0.5 acres.

Ryan:

I use my Bx 2200 to park my unloaded 9750 GVW 16' equipment trailer into it's spot in the woods. I had a friend weld up a 2" receiver hitch that slides onto the 3 pt. drawbar, with toplink attachment.

I drive the truck/trailer into my driveway (too busy a road to back into) and unload the tractor/implements.
I then disconnect the trailer from my truck, slide the hitch ball from the truck into the tractor set-up, move the truck, and hook up the tractor to the trailer.

The trailer is approx 2000 lbs empty, so I take it slow in low range/4wd and put it where i need to.
Since the hitch is on the 3 pt., after hook-up, I lower it which lowers the center of gravity.
The one caution with pulling off the drawbar is that you could flip the tractor over backwards, if you snagged the trailer on something, especially at high speed. Kubota reccomends only pulling from the bottom hitch plate.
The key is to go slow.
I would not do this on steep hills or drive the trailer down the road, but for the use you describe, this works weekly for me. This saves my lawn, especially when wet, and the trailer is much more manuverable that when hooked to my pick-up.

Thank you everyone for your input. I am convinced that the BX2200 will do what I need. I think next week I will put in my order for a BX220, FEL, and MMM. (We'll add the other toys later). I did get out and take a look at a dealer - they had the BX22. That is quite a setup! I'm afraid the temptation would be big to plant my wifes tulips with the backhoe though - better stick with the 2200. Thanks again!!

ryan, another pic of work in progress, you can see how it attaches to drawbar, then fastened with two lynch pins.

Ryan,

Don't know the specific specs around the BX1800 but based on my past experience moving a 16ft trailer with a 16hp lawn mower under normal circumstances the BX should handle the trailer on flat ground with no problems. However, you introduced one factor which is the wild card, pea gravel. If both the BX and the trailers wheels are on the pea gravel at the same time it may get a little tricky. Don't know why you have the pea gravel but if pea gravel is not needed you could use the FEL on the BX to replace the pea gravel with some material that will pack and give good traction.

In my kids swing/play area we have pea gravel and if I drive through there with the TC40D (R4 tires) while dragging something the wheels will spin, turning also gets very tricky as the front wheels just keep going forward. End up turning using the wheel brakes. Our pea gravel is 8 inches thick, if you only have 2 or 3 inches it may be better.

If you have concerns tell the dealer that you have a deal, if the tractor can perform this task. Ask the dealer to deliver the tractor and if it does the task, while he is still there, then you buy it. But if it does not perform, then he takes it back.

Dave -

Thanks for the input. I like your idea - have the dealer perform the task prior to purchase. I think I'll go that route. I am pretty convinced that it will work, but as long as ther is the smallest bit of question I may as well make sure. (Even with the toy value, I don't think I could convince my wife that I should keep the tractor if it won't perform the basic duty we need it for).

I happened to look at my owner's manual, and it says 800KG (1760lbs.) trailer load, "excluding trailer weigth". So, apparently you can have as big a trailer as you want, so long as you don't put more than 1760lbs on/in it :)
