BX1850 Hard to Start, Must Leave Glow Plugs on 10-15 Seconds to Start

My BX2200 (similar) requires a healthy glow plug shot before it starts. But then it starts quite well.

It was touched on but not completely...how does the engine start after use and it is warmed up? If all goes well after a cold start, then I'd say don't fret about it. Ten seconds, once a day, is not going to ruin your life.

Tractors and engines seem to each have a personality of their own. My L48 doesn't have an ignition glow plug position but the glow plug light goes on for a flash and it starts immediately. The M7040 doesn't even use the glow plugs and starts immediately. As pointed out, the BX2200 requires a bit more patience.

Bit here, it is rare to have a day below freezing.

It could be old diesel but diesel lasts a long time. Just run the tractor to near empty and fill up with fresh. Don't forget to report back on what you found so we all can learn.

There was another thread on here just recently where someone had one or two of his glow plugs had gone bad. He replaced and it started firing up great again.

I don't know anything about them, so don't have advice for how to check them...

Thanks for all your replies! Was just a little concerned because the 1830 I got new in '05 (currently 340 hours) starts right up after a few seconds and the '08 1850 (145 hours) is a little longer to start. It seems to start easier after it has been running, but still not as quick as the 1830. I will check for the air leak per Kanook's suggestion. I'll report back later and report anything I find wrong with it.
On a side note: be sure to get a loader with your tractor! Got the 1830 new and wanted to keep it under 10k with mower, so I skipped on the loader. After a few nasty winters, and rumors of another nasty winter, I decided I wanted a loader, ordered one, but cancelled due to the estimated time of arrival being moved out several times. Thanks to Craigslist, found a BX1850 half hour away with loader and mower for 2X cost of loader. So now I have two tractors, told wife I would sell one, but have decided to get her on one to cut mowing time on 3 acre yard, and have backup tractor. But I should have just spent the extra 2500 or so extra it would have cost to get the LA211 loader with the BX1830 back in '05! You can pay now or pay later and I did the latter..
Thanks again for your replies and suggestions!!

Amen, brother. Smartest money I ever spent. And I thought I was splurging at the time.
