I am new to this forum and have very limited knowledge of the inner workings of tractors/cars but I thought I'd throw out my situation.

My BX22 is three years old with 250 hours. I was working on making a golf green when my tractor immediately shut down without any sputtering or other symptoms. If I tried to restart by turning the key to the right, the engine starts but then cuts off when the key springs back to the run position. If I tried holding the key in the start position the engine stays running but if I try to move the gear out of neutral, engine shuts down.

With the help of a neighbor, he found the solenoid fuse had blown. We put in a 15amp fuse, it blew. Put in a 20amp fuse (ran out of 15s) and everything was fine for three days. Yesterday, same thing happens again. Replaced fuses blow soon as ignition key is turned. Initially we did a visual check to locate any possible shorts.

Tractor repair guy is coming out today b/c I have a tight time frame and need the BX badly.

Any suggestions or information so I don't get taken to the cleaners with a huge repair bill?

Thanks

I hope I remember correctly on this, but I think folks have said the circuit for the solenoid is the same for the lights, etc and sometimes moisture gets into the switches and blows the fuse. Sorry I don't know for sure. If the search function works today, you might try that.

Not sure how close the BX2230 is to the BX22 but on the BX2230 the shut off solenoid is energized by a timed relay module that ties into the seat and PTO switches and the key switch. Think I would be looking into a shorted wire or some people have plugged too many lights into the connector underneath the seat. May try to find somebody that has a BX22 that may know better.

Thanks for the input. Repair guy came and went before I go home from work. According to my dog walker (reliable source?), he replaced the solenoid itself and it seems to work like a champ. Guess I'll find out the damage when they send the bill.

I hope this is the end of the story. If not I'll check the flood lights and under the seat.

Got to go spread 40 yards of 60/20/20 on to my future green.
