The fan that cools that HST on the bx22 is a cheap plastic fan that is not well protected from branches that flip up under the tractor. I lost several blades off mine, so I ordered a new one (well 3 new ones to be exact). They are cheap, only $4 but it's not a 5 minute job! I tried to do it from underneath without removing the floor pan, but it just was not possible. I could not get the propeller shaft out of the way to get the fan off, so I had to remove the floor pan. First a picture of the broken fan before I replaced it:

I found that just unbolting the propeller shaft was not enough. I had to remove the flanges to get it out of the way. To do this requires inside snap ring pliars. I also replaced a broken dust boot on the shaft in the process. Warning, after you remove the inside snap ring and pull out the shaft, there are 4 ball bearings on each end that tend to fall out and roll away! Don't lose them! Attached is a detailed photo of how the shaft mates into the flanges on both the engine side and the HST side:

So as you can see you also need to remove an outside snap ring to replace the dust boot. Time from start to finish 3.5 hours. Next time will be faster; I was going slow to make sure I knew how to put it all back together. The new fan installed:

with the pan off looks like easy access to lube any pivot points on levers and rods.
