I've been working with my dealer on pricing of various Kubota models. I was surprised at the time he had a leftover BX22 and I asked him price. He gave me a price of 16K which included the BX22, turf tires and 60" MMM. Well 2 weeks have passed and he calls me out of the blue and says he will sell the BX22, turf tires and 60"MMM for $15,550. I was surprised he called me as this dealer has been busy and NEVER seems to "chase" me down to buy from him. I purchased MANY items from him over the years and always liked the non-pushy approach. At times I felt he was too laid back. Now he's got me thinking about the BX22. Do you people feel I should consider the BX22 or just buy the BX23 which he would sell for $16,200?

I would buy the BX23 for the small difference in price. No reason to take a discontinued model unless the savings was substantial. I believe that both machines cost him very close to the same money and he wants to keep his profit on the older machine. If I were the dealer, I would sell the older machine for just what it cost me to get it off the lot. It is like buying a new 2003 model car from a dealer today. The sticker price might be close to the 2004 identical model, but the discount on the 2003 will be much different. That is why car dealers try to clear out the old inventory just as the new is arriving. If the BX23 model hadn't been introduced, then I wouldn't hesitate to take a year old manufacturing year model tractor at a small price savings. In this instance, you will loose later on in the resale market unless you keep this for a long time and sell in the distant future. Unfortunately, we never know what our circumstances will be for the future, so we never know exactly when something will be sold. I know a lot of people here believe that they will keep their tractors into the far future. I plan on living for a long time and keeping my tractor till I die. I also know that if I were to die tomorrow, that my tractor would be sold shortly thereafter.

I considered the same thing. A dealer had a left over BX22 that could have been bought for $14,000, plus 1500 for the Mid mount mower. I bought instead a BX23, for $14900, plus $1800 for the mid mount mower. If you could get the BX22 for under $15,000 with the mid-mount...it may be worthwhile to you. Since he called you back, you certainly have some negotiation power here.
