duster, I guess you mean the 4100 and 4200 JDs have more capability than the BX2200, which is true for the 4200 (maybe not the 4100). But realize that Kubota has a whole line of compact tractors to compare with those JDs, and you will usually find they are favorably priced in comparison. You could probably compare a B2410 to the 4100, and the B2710 to the 4200.

The only JDs that compare to the BX machines are the 400 series lawn tractors. From what I see the BX's blow those JDs away.

Re: BX2200 Hoopla!

Horsepower's for advertising only, it means nothing in the real world. I always look at torque at a given rpm since that's what pulls the freight. It puts out 55lbs somewhere in the range.

The BX isn't a "toy" tractor anymore than a Vette is a "toy" Chevy just because it's lower.

My 17 year old NH is great or rather my 17 year old Shibaura Shibauru or whoever makes the danged thing. It ain't Ford and it ain't NH.

And who says you have to run it at max rpm? This develops max hp at 3200 not 3600. I'd rather have an engine that develops 22 at 3200 than 18 at 2600, since the "better" one probably is doing 18 at 2600 also. I've found that finish mowing works just fine at lower rpms with sharp blades. I wish these were DESIGNED to cut faster at lower rpms, what goof said you have to be pushing 22 hp to cut grass?

I think it's actually easier on the brush hogs if they are run at higher speed.?

PS Don't you know it approaches blasphemy to say something against those loveable BX's on this board or anywhere else?

Why I'm so offended /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I just took some orange model paint and dabbed it onto my NH. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

If the dealer thinks you are really serious they may let you have it a home for a least a couple of hours, that is the real test. You'll find out all kinds of things you won't in that nice flat dealer play area! I paid to rent a tractor for a day and it saved me a disaster.

Re: BX2200 Hoopla!

del,

Don't you know if you're not a board member your opinion doesn't count!

OK, I take back the "toy" part. And just so you know, my NEW HOLLAND has at least some assembly right here in the good ole USA! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

If you have a 17 year old NH/Ford, you better believe that Ford had a stake in making that thing!

I'm actually just surprised at the price they're getting people to pay for those things (BX's) comparatively speaking of course.

Re: BX2200 Hoopla!

del,

John Deere had a great idea making an economy PTO that lowered engine speed to 1800 instead of 2200 in the 10 series. Saved fuel when you did not need the rated hp of the tractor and ran the engine at a much slower speed. Unfortunately, I have not seen anyone that actually bought one. I can run the mower at 1800 and don't see any difference in the cut as long as the blades are sharp.

I noticed that in looking at several new New Holland tractors, that they looked like they were made in different countries by different companies.

Guess I lived too close to ORANGE county for too many years to not drive a KUBOTA. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Yeah, JimBinMI, it is surprising that they're selling those BXs that cheap, ain't it?/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: BX2200 Hoopla!

Put me down for "Just Don't Get It"!

Well Jim, as one who is still searching for a new tractor and wanting to make sure I cover every base throughly, I can tell you why I'm leaning toward a Kubota. Since my current tractor is an International and feel pretty sure I won't be buying a new IH, I feel I can at least be less bias and more subjective in my approach to this. After checking out the John Deeres, I felt that they are still lagging technology wise, and although the tractors are fine, I found myself leaning toward the NH and Kubota. New Holland has been painfully slow coming out with info on its new Boomer series, at least in the size I'm looking at(TC45D). It was James who gave me the info I wanted and just recently they have posted the specs on the TC35 to TC45 on their web site, yeah... This was a turnoff right from the get go. The new Kubota L4610 was not on the web site for a short time, but brochures with specs were available from the dealer right away. OK, so NH doesnt have as good a marketing plan as Kubota, I can look past that especially if they make a better tractor. The TC45D is a very nice tractor now that I have seen it. The Kubota equivalent, the 4610 HST is also. The hydrostatic drive on the Kubota is the best, just try it, rev the tractor to full RPM, stick the shifter in high and ease down the HST pedal, smooth as silk, and very quiet. Go just off idle, in low, slam down the HST, no jerking, just smooth, really smooth. Try this on any other HST, and it is different, way different. The diesel on the 4610 is quieter as well, maybe its the IDI diesel of the Kubota. Until you experience the Kubota HST, I don't think you can make a fair assesment of it and it may tell you why people who test the Kubotas get hooked on them. I understand that John Deere is now overhauling its HST to make a competitor to the Kubotas. HST is where most all tractors are going, they will be building their reputations on it. If you took the Kubota diesel and HST drive and put it in the TC45D, that would be my tractor! As far as the BX???? and TC18, I'm not to familiar with those since I have no interest in them, I would pretty much consider them to be mowers since I would doubt that if they even have loaders they could lift much more then a wheelbarrow load. But I am sure that they would be really sweet mowers, maybe when my Snapper rider gives out I'll look at the TC18 and BX2200. Hope this unravels some of the puzzlement you have about the Kubotas. Rat...

Re: BX2200 Hoopla!

Glad you "got it" and you got it right.

I even like the Kubota better in the gear model too! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I would love an HST if they made it in the M Series - maybe they will someday.

Re: BX2200 Hoopla!

Hey!...I am a member, under "del" I just got tired of having trouble posting using my "member" name. Works better and quicker without it.

The Kubotas are "made" in Georgia I think, at least the BX's. Definition: MADE... must have decals applied in that location. All other design, engineering, production and assembly may be done elsewhere.

My old NH is one of the cool ones that actually says "FORD" on it with the script Ford logo.

Sometime later Ford and NH got into some kind of spat and they weren't allowed to say Ford with the logo only in block letters, then they stopped saying Ford all together.

Re: BX2200 Hoopla!

The BX will lift 450 lbs. You must have one good set of arms to move that in your wheelbarrow! PLUS A CUPHOLDER!

If anyone's contemplating new versus used in the Kubotas, wasn't it just recently that they changed the HST pedal to the "featherstep" or whatever it is that makes it so smooth?

My only problem with NH is that I probably won't need parts for my tractor for 15-20+ years. OOPS I'll be lucky to be around in 20+ years. Well MY WIFE and Kids may need parts in 20+ years. I wonder with NH if they are going to continue to support the little toys when their business is mainly BIG toys. Kubota couldn't afford to not take care of the little ones. But then again, if I was sure the current NH were built by the same people and/or with the same care as my 17 year old one, I'd jump on one in a second. Sturdy old beast, lots of dumb foolhardy things done and attempted, never a peep out of it. Just keep shovin' clean oil and filters in on a regular basis and they'll love ya forever!
