Oil & Fuel BX2200 fuel tank leak

I just replaced mine with a kit that cost me around $18 from the local dealer, who told me the warranty for this was 2 years /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif . It did take around 2 hours but I also was doing a 300 hour service. I have wrote to Kubota about this but have not herd back from them yet. Maybe I can get a shirt and hat out of them because I didn't mind doing the work myself. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Junkman,
Had the same problem with my 2001 (?) BX2200 fuel tank leaking. The 3" round sending unit gasket is the culprit as you stated. Be careful taking off the deck and other assemblies to get to the tank. The edges of the sheet metal are very SHARP! Good idea to wear gloves. I was beginning to wonder if my using a blend of biodiesel had caused the gasket to warp, but perhaps not.

Mine started leaking after it was out of warranty, I bought the replacement unit and when I got the old one out, it looked just like the new one (they gave me the wrong one). I cleaned the old one and the tank area, put clear silicone sealant on them and put it back together, I let it set for 24 hrs/ and then refilled the tank. It has been holding just fine for about a year now. I returned the new unit to the dealer and got a refund. If it ever starts leaking again, I'll get the correct replacement unit and put that in. Hope I don't have to do that.

By Golly! 314 hrs on my 2001 BX2200. Went outside the other day after the sun had been shining on it to find my left rear tire soaked with diesel! I had to do some quick siphoning myself. Took out a couple gallons and it quit leaking. My dealer gave me Junkman's part number but he said that it was to repair the fuel tank where it rubs through just under the ROPS /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. Sounds to me like that's not really the case. Mine is leaking under the left fender around where the tank is sitting on a bracket and cushioned by a piece of rubber. Is that where everybody else's is leaking?

print out the service bulletin and take it to your dealer. My guess is that he hasn't a clue as to what causes the problems and is just trying to get out of doing a warranty repair... Junk... http://www.tractorsmart.com/books/bxfuelsensorleak.htm

My BX2200 tank also just started leaking. Mine is 3 yrs old with 127 hours. I didn't notice the leak until I drove the tractor up onto a pair of metal car ramps to clean out the mower deck. The left back tire was pretty wet. My leak is in the top seam that runs horizontal across the top of the tank. It is weeping in an area about 2-4 inches long. The Kubota folks just picked up the tractor for a tank replacement. Hope to get it back end of the week.

I ordered the seal kit from Tractorsmart a couple days ago. I hope that's what it is and not a split tank like you've got. I'll find out in a few days. I was quoted $132 just for the tank. The bigger problem is being down for a day or two. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I replaced my sending unit shortly after I bought my 2000 BX2200 last year. The problem with the original older unit was its design that depended only on a "push" in to the tank type of snug fit. Over time, with movement and fuel sloshing around, the unit can wedge itself loose and start leaking.

The replacement unit has tabs that fit inside the tank that when the screws are tightened, firm the unit up solid to the tank and seal. Much better design.

I took the ROPS and rear fenders off to get to it. It's not a tough job at all.

I replaced mine with no problems, and had some sucess from Kubota in that they did sent me an orange polo shirt and cap for my troubles./forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The only problem I have is that my youngest son really liked the cap and has taken over ownership of it /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
