Took a look at the manual. Looks like the lever is returned to neutral via a feed back rod.. Purely mechanical, not hydraulic at all.
Look at the back right side of the tractor. You should see a plate bolted onto the right side lift arm. As the arm is raised that plate pushes back against a spring on the end of the feedback rod and when enough pressure is exerted on the spring, the lever is pulled back to neutral. Simple enough mechanism..
I'll take a look at the tractor sometime this week or weekend. Guessing its nothing a hose and a can of WD-40 wouldn't cure. At worst, a ledge worn onto the feed back shaft itself (probably from the shaft vibrating against the plate or the spring) may need a file taken to it.
