Final Report: The MMM deck height adjustment and rate of lowering knobs were both stuck (we knew going in.) The shop found that the cam for height position was jammed and could not be operated without loosening up all attached to it. They took off the deck, ran the whole tractor up in the air where they could get up under and reach the cam area, used plenty of PT Blaster and pryed it loose and back in position. With lubrication both the rate knob and the height knob were loosened and work fine now. Surprisingly none of the deck linkage was bent or out of place and there was really no significant problem. Cost 1.6 hr labor and added some hydraulic fluid. All is well.
Being able to get it up in the air to work under it they were able to avoid pulling any sheet metal or foot rest platform, etc. off as diesel85 (and I both) expected would have to be done.
