Tractor
kubota bx2200
WOW!! Three years ago I had the PTO control stick on my tractor. Originally, the dealer said that it would take two weeks to fix. I told them that my steering was intermittantly going out and to please check it, too. That was in May. After four weeks I started calling once a week. At first, they said that their service tech had gone an vacation. I asked why they had not notified me. My neighbor had mercy through the summer and would cut pathways through my 8 acres and, occasionally bushhog it. I finally gave up and called Kubota. My tractor got done in NOVEMBER!!!!!! I posted a message on the Kubota website AGAIN after I got the $2,000 price. That is when a very helpful manager called. He said that he followed up after my second post and found that my original had been sent to someone who never followed up. He gave me $,1000 off and when I got it back, after having the engine, tranny, ect completely broken down for that long they never checked or fixed the steering. Now, in my research I find that there was a service bulletin about a faulty o-ring from yrs back. My tractor now won't steer, is almost 7 yrs old and NEVER have I been notified about this problem(that seems to be WAY bigger than Kubota is saying) and my dealer says that it is a VERY expensive fix. I bought Kubota after using my grandfathers for 20 yrs on his farm. I will NEVER take it back to my local dealer. Think about that......MAY to NOV and EVERY bit of contact was initiated by me and I get back a partially fixed tractor. I have had MANY other failures that are too numerous to list. It has only been used to cut MY grass and plow my garden twice a year. Are there any recalls. Is there a lemon law. To find this out about the steering after it completely fails 4 yrs after it started and never getting an answer except how expensive it would be to fix has me LIVID. Any input appreciated.

Looks like the Company (Kubota) did a good thing with the $1000 off your bill. Guess that's who knocked the $1000 off. My first tractor which I no longer own was a BX2200 bought 7 years ago and I never rec'd any kind of recall and I don't remember reading about this being a common issue on the BX2200. I may have missed it. How many hours do you have on this 7 year old tractor?
Looks like you have the often spoken of/written about bad dealer. Seems to be a really, really bad dealer if he has the same story as you. Shows the value of a good dealer.

800 hours on mine. I have used my grandfathers larger model for more than 20 yrs, several others while volunteering at sports fields for my children and my neighbor has the next size up(tractor envy showing through) and have never heard of these types of issues on any Kubota other than the bx. I even found a thread on here about the steering( ref. Power Steering Play). The dealer IS bad. My neighbor that cut paths for me witnessed the whole thing and now goes about 10 extra miles to have his serviced at another. He has been blown away by the entire thing and is very glad that he went above the BX in size.

We have had good luck with our BX2200 as well as our BX2660, but the dealer we bought the 2200 sounds like yours and had his dealership pulled. I once picked my 2200 up unfinished as I needed it and he had not finished dinkiing around with it. Our present dealer is great.

Everyone that I know is shocked that ours has not had theirs pulled. The parts manager is a great guy and has always been very helpful(we have done most repairs/service ourself. He has helped us troubleshoot and been an all around huge help. The dealer flat out sux. It is such a shame. A dealer with decent service and general businees acumen and without a semi-captive audience would never have a customer with a LONG Kubota history of nothing but good be this irrate. I should have known to go more classic. Too many things to go wrong on an early model with the bells and whistles.

My BX2200 is a year 2000 model. I never had any of those kinds of problems. I am sorry yours did. Drawing the conclusion that yours has these problems because it is an early model with too many bells and whistles is something I don't agree with, however. Yours isn't quite 7 years old, mine is 11 years old. I haven't heard of any other widespread problems with the BX2200 either, except the fuel tank recall and exchange. I think yours probably came out after they started putting the new tank in. The only big problem I've had with mine was electrical; they somehow damaged the harness when installing my Woods bh and it had to eventually be replaced. Again, I am not writing off your problems, however I think your situation is unique, and also unfortunate. This dealer has obviously treated you very badly and I wish you all the luck in getting everything resolved.

1. Not sure about the service bulletin on O-ring part. Woulda heard about it here.

2. Rebuilding the steering ram (replacing the O-rings) is not a huge repair. Lots of threads here on doing it yourself.

Sorry for your troubles though. :(

If I remember correct, the steering o-ring deal was that some cylinders had rust pitting inside the cylinder tube that would cause the o-ring to fail. The fix was a new cylinder. I thought that problem was one that would show up sooner rather than later. I have a 2002 BX22 that has been great in 600 hrs.

Thanks to ya!! Makes me feel better about doing what I had asked them to do when it was completely torn down. I'll look for the threads

It did. You are right. It would happen intermittently at first so we just "played through. Then, when it was 4 yrs old, it began to become more frequent. Now, it is shot.
