BX2200 vs B2910

Does it look anything like this?

If it does, then it is comparable to my JD 316 which is no comparison at all to the BX

Not trying to be causing an argument but a Gravely is no match for a Kubota--the Gravely is a lawnmower styled tractor (not impressed with a Gravely) fairly light duty and not exactly common in my area. Not meant as a put down, bring that Gravely over and we will go at it. I am sure the BX can haul several around easily. Pretty dang sure of it. I have posted this pic and a similar one but I think perhaps you did not see it. Also, do not think I am trying to talk you out of a bigger tractor like a 7500, 2400 or 2900--just trying to provide relevant info to your decision and hoping whatever you get will be right for you and dang sure better than a Gravely. Sorry for a second post but the picture you gave of a Gravely lawnmower Woodstock is what I am thinking of for sure. Sorry I did not see it first but the site is slow to load tonight. Yeah, if that is a Gravely I will put money (not much--I am poor) on that I can drag at least 3 of them wimpering behind my BX in the dust. Could you imagine how many a 2910 could tow or mash flat.
Sorry, really not meaning to poke fun at your Gravely mower, those look like real nice units for lawn mowing with a good reputation for durability but you really will be happier with any Kubota utility tractor (UT) than a Gravely LT. Again, good luck with your research and kick me in the rear for being a smart alec. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif . J

this is how I look at it.
You've identified the range, now buy the big one.
Why? Won't the BX handel the job? of course it will, but if you can swing the $$$ then buy the biggest one you can use without it becoming a hinderence. Never met anyone who wished they'd gotten less of a tractor.
I have 3/4 an acre and I love my BX. Love it. It scares my neighbors in to cowering in their garages with their LT250's he he he! If I had some implementzs it would even be better. I can't wait till winter (who said that?) so I can plow snow!

Here's the Peter Principal of tractor selection: Tractor size grows until it's too much (or something like that)

Rather than looking at how big it needs to be, look at how big it CAN NOT BE.

What's you max spending ability?

What's the biggest it can physically be without having to build a new barn, prune every tree, remove every other tree, etc.

What's the heaviest is can be? Consider trailering needs, if any, and lawn compaction.

Then get the biggest tractor you can that doesn't exceed your limits. You won't regret it, and you won't be trading it in in 2 years. Lot's of people upgrade. Nobody downsizes.

I grew up running a gravely like that /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif It is quite powerful for its size. Even with its 12 hp engine, it would cut things these fancy new 25 hp ones wont touch. Shaft driven deck is nice and the new ones have optional hydraulics. There are third parties that offer FELs and Backhoes for them.

Problem is they cost about $7K here, for just a little more, you can get a small Kubota. I know I have put 1000+ hours on our gravely personally, and driving the BX2200 was amazing. Much more power, power steering, larger mowing deck, hydro transmission....the list goes on and on.

Simple fact is this: the gravely is a very heavy duty "lawn mower", nothing more. Tractors are in a different class.

As far as the BX2200 vs B2910 goes, the price difference between them is $9911 vs $16580. Just going by the list prices, you will pay $6669 more for the B2910, plus the additional costs for the larger mowing deck and other implements.

I would make sure that you have enough every-day type work to justify that kind of price difference.

The Peter principal eh... ?
I wish I'd been told that ahead of time. I spent weeks reinventing the wheel to come to the same conclusion.
I call it the Rogue whale rule. If it looks feels and acts entirly to big for your needs, income and property, downsize one notch. repeat as necessary!

Now we have the Chaulkey "Cup" (read in mini-refrigerator with magnets here) and the Rogue "Whale Rule" /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Hi,

I was in a similar position last year...almost. I liked the BX2200, but wanted a backhoe. That put me in the regular B series. By the time I was done pricing the various models with the attachments I wanted, and knowing I would have this tractor for the rest of my life (I hope!), I felt the B2910 was the best way to go. I've never regretted my decision.

For reference, I'm on a 2/3 acre lot, with hardpan and rock soil. I use my B2910 as my digging machine. It has R4's, LA402 loader, Woods 7500 backhoe and Woods 1160 post hole auger. It's been a sweet machine and I'm thrilled with it. I haven't had any maneuverability problems with it.

In retrospect, any of the B models would have done what I needed. But I know a little voice in side of my head would have kept saying "...you should've gotten the bigger one, your should've gotten the bigger one". I guess I'm thankful they don't make a B3310! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Good Luck,

Rick Jay

Now, everybody behave and place nice or you'll be grounded from your 'Bota's for two days!
FYI, for 20 years we mowed 2-4 acres with a Wheelhorse 8HP Kohler with 36" deck, an awesome lawn & garden tractor. That was mowing once a week and it was also pulled many loads of firewood/dirt around an 11 acre farm. It was one stud machine, still is, but the mowing deck started to fall apart on year 18, the steering linkage was falling apart (several parts repaired). It cut grass neater than my
B7500 but only on the uneven spots, but no way does it compare to my Bota.
It was replaced by a MTW 18HP Briggs with 42" deck, and the Wheelhorse was 4-1 a better machine and I know that little HP could drag the MTW around the yard because of gearing and those Kohler engines are first class stud puppies.
I do love my 'Bota, and the B7500 fits me and the chores perfectly, at least for now.
