BX2200 vs B2910

Actually some people do downsize, essentially I did since they dumped that nearly new and beutiful 7500 in my yard and I decided it was too big. I know there is a 2410 on the lot last week that traded for a BX. Actually if I was not saving bucks for a custom 25,000 dollar Lycoming for my airplane project I would go grab that 2410. I would not get a mower deck for it at all cuz the BX would do all that. In fact, I just want a bigger tractor so I can knock over more stuff and impress you guys. When you got a L series or a 2900, your job is computers or what not and you only have 3 acres and "someday" purchasing more land that may need a back hoe--nah. Get the BX or 7500, put the difference in the Market and when "someday" gets here take the old tractor and the loot down to the dealer and buy what you need for the new property. That is what I think. J

Investing the cost savings may be a good option for you, but the way I look at it, I'd rather spend the extra 5-6k my B2910 cost over the BX2200 and be happier with my purchase, have fun with it over a longer period of time, and get more work done faster (even though I "only have 3 acres" and "someday" plan on buying more). Each purchaser needs to look as his/her needs, money situation and decide what they want/need/can afford. And that's what I think. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I've done some landscaping work with the BX2200, and I have a full winter's worth of snowblowing a 420' driveway/parking lot in upstate NY. Oh, and I've been mowing 5.25 acres once a week for the past 2 summers.

I was very surprised at what the loader handled. Far more than filling it up with mulch -- I had it loaded up pretty good with rocks being removed from my old landscaping. I got nervous about being over the loader limit -- or that the loaded tires would not provide enough counterweight -- but I had no problems. Low - and slow -- no problem.

As for snowblowing, I just commented somewhere else in this forum that I actually looked forward to snowstorms this past winter.

Mowing? That is the BX's strong suit. And the lower center of gravity on the BX is great if you've got some hilly terrain.

jerry: are u happy with your purchase? THAT IS ALL THAT IS IMPORTANT. i have 9 acres and a b2400. it does me fine. there are time though when i wish i had a a cat d9. but for 99.9% of the time the 2400 is fine..enjoy your tractor!

Jerry, sorry I think I misunderstood. I thought you were still looking to buy and now I see you have already bought (?). Great deal--hope you enjoy your 2900---. My suggestion was and would still be my advice for a 3 acre property owner who is not hiring out tractor work but as many on this forum know--these tractors are really a hobby and if a 2910 on 1 acre is happiness for you (not you specific) then by all means. The 5000 dollars invested over 5 to 10 years can be a real pile of cash plus trade in on a BX or 7500 but heck you get what you want and be happy. Sorry I misunderstood your original post. J

I agree with most of what you say, but I'm not entirely sold on the "investment" idea. Last year, when I bought my B2910, I put approximately the same value as the tractor into the market. Well, after a year and a half, my tractor might have depreciated 10%...heck say 20% if I needed to sell it quick. My "investment" is down over 50%.

I'm hoping that after 5-10 years my "investment" is worth more than my tractor, but right now the tractor is way ahead. Plus, I can go sit on my tractor anytime I want. My "investment" seems to exist only on paper.

I keep telling myself...longterm....longterm.

Just my $0.02 (all I have left after my tractor and investments /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif).

As an investment: My dealer said spoke of TIME. How much time I save in one mowing, one month's mowing, one year's mowing and an extra $1,000-1500 would be more than made up for in how much time was invested buy choosing HST over manual, 60" over 54", etc. It makes perfect sense because my time is more is of extreme value (more time for other "Bota chores!).
