"putting hours on their tractor or talking about their tractors and usage with other JD owners" ----looking around -- don't see any JD owners--I think this is a Kubota subject area where Kubota owners talk about their tractors and usage with other Kubota owners /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif .
Actually, Cornfed, your comments are welcome and I am sure the original poster also welcomes all responses as he/she I am sure values your post as much as any other in their search for whatever machine is perfect for them.
No need to get "rowdy" cuz we might all tractor over and mash your 4XX--hey--just playing with you-- /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif ---- best wishes to you. Hey, why not register and get rowdy with us and post some pics of your 4XX in action--I would enjoy seeing your implements and machine and I am sure many others will too. Pics please! Smok'em Peace Pipe?

More dumb tractor pics! These have both the BX and 2410 in action.

You know, it would really help if you quantified your arguments ...

The BX is far less nimble than my 455

Not sure what you mean? Turning radius? I know that the BX is certainly more sure-footed with it's 4wd. I'd take 4wd on a hill or in the snow any-day.

The 455 is better at a lot of things related to good turf care (the best designed deck in the class), maintenance, service, and holding value (don't waste your time, K-boys--the reality for large GTs and LTs is different than your rationalization of "conditions in my area").

Hmmm. So - you owned a BX and traded it for a 455 and now you're complaining that you got a crappy price for the BX when you traded it. First, I don't believe it - in fact I don't believe you owned a BX at all.

Second, I would say that invalidates any other arguments you're making here. Not too smart of a decision. If your argument about trade-in is true (which it's not) then you were probably better of keeping the BX even if you weren't thrilled.

the three point hitch specs are almost identical

Huh? Cat 0 vs Cat 1?

there's just too much weight on the BX for the wheelbase and width

??? By what standard? I wasn't leaving ruts on my lawn the last time I looked.

If you are doing serious loader work or want to use most attachments, you need something more than either one.

What's serious loader work? (Besides - I didn't even get a loader with my BX.)

the guys in high school who weren't gettin' any were the ones who were braggin and flirtin, remember?

I have a Bachelor's and Master's in Engineering. I'm also a member of the ASME and have been working in the engineering field for years. I'm not worried about whether I made the right decision or know how to evaluate two machines. It's just a case of analyzing your individual needs and matching them to the appropriate specifications. I do enjoy debate though.

There are a lot of guys using BXs on this board who end up getting a compact utility because they either get a taste of the capablilities of a true CUT, or because they really needed one in the first place and underbought.

Please tell me who they are. Sometimes needs change - but I don't think we're talking about 'a lot' by any stretch.

I think its a bit unhealthy to skulk around waiting for someone to say something negative about "your" tractor with a spec sheet on the desk in front of you.

So what brought you here then? Really? Maybe it's just that the average Kubota owner is more computer savvy and cares more about the details of the decision than joining a club of a particular color? /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Always up for a debate,

Patrick

Patrick - You made some arguments, as always. But, I hope you don't think you scored any points. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Maybe it's due to a bad assumption on my part, but my eyes tend to narrow a bit any time I see a poster who's name starts with anything that's obviously a brand name, unless they've earned a little respect as a regular contributor. And they go positively blind when that poster is unregistered. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Well, maybe I should qualify that to say I have that reaction when the topic has anything to do with choice of machine manufacturer. (I read kubmech's posts carefully, for example, because he is what he is, a mechanic, and a good one - he knows his stuff. He also seems to disqualify himself from the "my tiddlywinks are better than your tiddlywinks because they're pink" discussions, too.) Besides, look at the difficulties it can pose. I'd have started out "MFMark", the been "KubMark", then "JDMark", (maybe followed by "KubMark" again), then "PTMark", then "EFMark". (And they're all worthy tractors.) It gives me a headache just thinking about it. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif (Please, no offense intended to those of you who, as I say, are regular members and have shown you can curb your brand loyalty enough that you can still communicate intelligently on the subject at hand. Some of you, I realize, do it only to indicate what kind of tractor you own. I'm not criticizing your choice of names.)

Traded my BX2200 for a 455 last year.

So how much cash did they give you for the difference?

Two years ago, I was ready to sign on the bottom line for a 455. It was a beautiful machine, albeit expensive. Then someone in one of these tractor forums suggested I check out the BX. After pricing one for about the same money as a 455, I went back to the JD salesman and asked him why I should buy the 455 for the same money as the BX. He didn't have an answer except to say that JD had some work to do to come up with something to compete with the BX.

I hope the work JD is doing is more than simply engineering stories.

Mark,

I'm not sure what your point is. This is an open forum, no? Is there no restriction on what can be posted - yet a restriction on what the reply can be?

Logging off,

Patrick - No, no, that's not what I meant at all - sorry if I was unclear. In saying I doubted you scored any points, I meant that if a person's sole intent in posting a message is to assert that one particular brand of machine is better than all others (especially if they're even willing to "anonymously" post untruths, whether willfully or not, to do so), no logic, no reason, no rebuttal of any sort, is going to make any difference.

As I said, I think you raised some very good points. But I don't think the person you directed them to is listening... That's all.

Shouldn't have said "traded" The JD dealer wasn't interested in reselling the BX so I sold it through the shopper. Got $9,850 w/ 195 hours on it (BX2200 w/60"). Paid $10,925. Paid $9,350 for my 455 w/ 60" deck and added the 3PH and PTO for about another $1,000. I wasn't looking for something to "compete' with the BX. When I started looking around I thought I was going tpo go to the 4100 to get more than the BX. I realized that I didn't need 4WD, a loader, etc. so I bought the best tractor for me. It wasn't about the price. value is in the perceptions of the user.
