BX23 and 14\" of snow

Well we got a lot more than I expected Friday here in NW Connecticut. I got home from work at about 7 PM to find the snow up to the bumper of the car in the driveway, I was excited to use the BX23 but when I saw how deep the snow was I became a little anxious.

Well I filled her up fired her up and shoveled a little around the garage as she warmed up. After about 10 minutes I put her in 4 wheel and edged out the garage. I have an area about 50x50 at the top of a 450' driveway. I ended up pushing snow that was curled about 2' above the blade and it looked like it went out about 10' from the blade, but she pushed it.

When all was said and done I was able to do get the job done in about 50 minutes, I found that I basically did the entire driveway about 3 times because even with the blade angled as far as it would go snow escaped to make furrows. I snuck out in the sun on Saturday to clean up a little and widen the driveway in a couple spots, by the afternoon it was about 90% pavement.

Overall I was pleased, I see the snowblower vs blade discussion and would probably have liked the blower better for this snow but overall I was thrilled with how it handled the snow. Traction was no issue even pushing the blade at an angle up a 13% slope, the machine did slide sideways a couple times but using the blade angle you could steer it right back.

Re: BX23 and 14\" of snow

I've got a B2150 and use the rear blade if the snow is 6" or less.

More than that predicted and I switch to the 3Pt Blower.

I haven't had much chance to use the blower yet. But we had
about 3-4" last week and the blade cleared it in a flash. I've gotten real good learning how to attack the snow in order to push it over enough to only have to make one pass in each direction.

If it's real wet, heavy snow, the blade gets harder to use.

Re: BX23 and 14\" of snow

Welcome: just dropped in to the Orange section to see what's up. We got about 12" here in Southbury. I had the front mount blower hooked up to my Case DX24E and ready to rock and roll at the first sign of snowflake. Waited till the snow stopped, unplugged the block heater and Battery Tender and got to work. We have a 40 x 50 parking area on top and a downhill paved 400' driveway. Down once, back up, good to go. My two neighbors still didn't get plowed out by 3 o'clock so I did theirs too. Can't have too much fun when the sun is out and the snow is flyin wherever you point the chute. Did have to engage the 4wd twice, their driveways are steeper than mine. Are you using a weight box in the back? or something else? Send me a note and I'll buy the first coffee and we can argue what colors better, Red or Orange /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: BX23 and 14\" of snow

Sounds like you did rock and roll. The first couple snows, 4 or 5", the blade was really fast and very effective, this last snow was definately slower, I think a blower would have been much better.

What size blower do you have? I am not familiar with Case so I will take a look now.

I am in 4 wheel drive the entire time, taking it out only to back in the garage. I actually mow in 4 wheel as well, the soil is always so wet that I will tear up grass if I don't stay in 4 wheel.

As for weight I leave the BH on, this cantilevers out some from the rear wheels and does a good job, I have had no traction issues even pushing a pretty good blade of snow up hill. I also use the BH to clean up around the mailbox, that is really just to show off for the neighbors. Do you use weight? Leave the BH on?

There has been a lot of discussion of turf vs other kinds of tires here for the snow, I find no issue with the turfs for traction, my only compaint is that they get dirty and drop mud in the garage and on the driveway when I mow and it is a little too wet.

I would like to meet some people down here we are new to the area from Stafford, I don't know the coffee shops either except for Phil's. Regarding Case vs Kubota, boy I don't know enough to say, I looked at Case down in Newtown and liked them a lot but Emerech's in NY had a deal and the service was so good I couldn't pass it up. I think that I would be happy with any of the major brands.

Looks like we'll be doing some clean up on the driveways tomorrow.
