My Bx23 manual says 375lbs and 42" max for a tiller or box scraper. Are any of you Bx23 owners running wider and heavier tillers or BB?

Thanks
John

I have a KK 48" tiller and she runs just fine with it. It is HEAVY, and I am very careful even with the FEL on, but it does work. Full throttle and slow ground speed makes a very smooth planting area. I also have Pat's system on so makes for a little more room and easier to install and take off. I also had a 48" box blade, no problem there either.

I use a 52" Bush Hog Tiller. Works fine for me. Never noticed the weight issue on the 3PH.

I also have a five ft box blade that is too big for the BX2200, but its what I have, so I use it. I can't pull a full load of heavy dirt--tires spin as I have turfs. Never been a problem lifting it though.

I bought the wider tiller from the dealer that sold me the BX--I wanted to cover my tracks and it does fine.

See this old post of mine. Though the thread was about a 3ph cement mixer on a BX, my reply goes into detailed specifics regarding the weight parameters on the 3ph of a BX. With a W-zero of 1210 lbs. and a W-2 of 680 lbs., using an attachment over 375 lb. should be no problem as long as you don't go racing across a furrowed field in a direction perpendicular to the furrows. In this case, the extra force from bouncing could exceed the weight parameters and damage or destroy the 3ph. You will notice that the only weight restrictions given in the manual are for implements designed for use while the tractor is in motion. No weight restrictions are given for attachments designed to be used while the tractor sits still: PHD, chipper, generator, cement mixer, pressure washer, air compressor, etc. That's because if the 3ph can lift the attachment, the attachment will not get bounced around while in use, and extra G-forces will not act on the 3ph. Attachments designed for use while the tractor is in motion can place extra G-forces on the 3ph due to bouncing on bumpy terrain, and so weight restrictions are calculated at a low enough number that the few people (a nephew from the city comes to visit & knows nothing about tractors) who abuse the tractor by acting like it's a dirt bike or ATV will not damage it. Otherwise the manufacturer exposes itself to legal liability. Normally you can exceed the given weight restrictions for attachments designed for use while the tractor is in motion, as long as you don't abuse the 3ph by racing across bumpy terrain and creating extra Gs by bouncing.

BTW, I'm in Wilton; where in the valley are you located?

Kool!!! Central Valley Kalifornia!!! Love seeing more local folks chiming in !!!
No prob here with a BushHog SBX 48" box. As far as weight ... I have successfully hauled pattets with 700# of pipe (pipe is easy to calc the weight that's why I can quantify it).
Tractor geek note: I have found that the amount of dirt that a box can haul is inversley proportionately to the depth of the cut being made to fill the box. In other words, prior to mounting gauge wheels on all of my attachments, my BB would fill fast and dig deeper as I went and I could only get half a box or so cuz it kept wanting to dig deeper. After gauge wheels, and setting the height properly, I can not only drag a full 4' box but can watch it spill out over the top ... pretty much as long as I want. The point: A 48", 430# box, under any conditions, is fine for a BX ... 4WD, Lo range, maybe diff locked. ... a 4' box with gauge wheels is a new world just waiting to be explored.
Cheers!

Homebrew,

Did you or could you post pics of your box blade gauge wheels please?

I did a search on your name and wheels, and didn't find anything. I'm needing to put gauge wheels on a ripper so I can control some sprinkler tube depth when I pull it in.

THANKS.

Hi Ron, My gauge wheel trilogy (with descriptions) is in my Yahoo photo album (link below). The only post I made, originally, was to Bob Reeves thread about whether wheels on a BB was worth pursuing. No wonder a search resulted in no hits for you as I have not been able to get the search function to work at all lately ... but I'm sure it's something wrong with me.
If you need any further info or pix feel free to PM me or whatever. I like your idea of wheels on a ripper and am anxious to see it.
Cheers!

Homebrew.

Thks for the link!

Attached is a pic of what I built and will use to lay pipe (will need to fab a downtube "L" yet--likely from our local muffler shop or autozone parts bin).

I built this to accept a harrow type attachment or deep ripper(s) as shown. I plan yet also to mod it so I can install five ripper teeth 1 ft apart. Plan to use that prior to tilling bare ground to loosen it up and check for debris.

If I can also use this mount, I might build an aerator tool for my fescue lawn to loosen it up. My goal was to build ONE 3ph mount and be able to attach different stuff to it, both to save space and cost.

Your design gauge wheels should work fine on my toolbar.

Ron

I really like that setup Ron! Looks like it would be a good rock plucker too. I've had a multi-use tool bar in the back of my mind but no brainstorms yet ... till I saw yours. Anxious to see what all you can hang on it. Thanks for the pic and idea!
