bx23 or jd4200 loader and backhoe

Half the weight, half the loader capacity, half the 3pt lift capacity, half the rear tire size, half the hydraulic flow.... probably half the year adjusted new price too. So its half the tractor. Approximately.

But sure, a BX23 is a fantastic little machine if thats what your needs call for. I'd rather have the Deere 2210 in that size but that is also half the tractor.

Honestly, not worth arguing about..As I said: All in what you need it for. I could have bought a B series for less money than mine went for at the time, but it didn't serve my needs. The B (don't remember the series) that they had was considerably bigger than my BX and was probably similar to the 4200.

I have no buyers remorse after six years and would buy the BX23 again.

:)
Which would you reccomend? They are basically the same hp and specs. different color.
The jd is much larger than the Kubota.

What does sub cut mean?
Cut means compact utility tractor .
Sub cut means sub compact utility tractor. :)

Let not argue about it, lets settle it definitively...

Code:
HST Tractor	4200 BX23
HP 26.3 hp 22
PTO HP 20.0 hp 16.7
Torque 57.9 lb-ft ?
Fuel Tank 10 g 5.5
Drawbar Weight	1102 lb ?
3pt Lift 1700 lb 680
Pump	Output	12.4 gpm 5.5
Weight 2875 lb 1520
Loader Lift 1003 lb 460
Loader Breakout	2141 lb 845

I'd call that half the tractor. It would take twice as long to accomplish most tasks with a BX23 vs a 4200, particularly those involving the loader and hydraulics (and thus the backhoe too).

And again, there is nothing wrong with a BX23, but to say its as much tractor as a 4200 is being disingenuous.

Cheno, just on the off chance that an argument about why "this tractor is twice as much tractor as that tractor", may not help you very much, may I make the following suggestions?

First, making a judgement about which one is better for you depends mostly on what you plan to be doing with it, the condition of the units - after all they are used tractors, and what they are selling for.

The 4200 is a larger framed unit that would be ideal in working on a 2-10 acre rural property with mowing, groundskeeping, road maintenance and light ag chores, to name a few. It could also serve as a small chore tractor for farm use, I suppose.

The 23 is about the smallest rig you could get that is still more a tractor than a garden tractor (although some who don't own one would argue the point). It's lower, has smaller tires, shorter, narrower, etc. It will go into places you couldn't fit a larger unit. It is probably ideal for 1-5 acre properties, or places where smaller size, lighter weight and lower ground clearance are an advantage. It's easier to transport. Maybe most different is a BX23 comes with a backhoe that would be an add-on with the 4200.

You haven't told us anything about what you need a tractor for, so the advice you get about which type of tractor is best really doesn't mean very much to your situation.

By the way, both JD and Kubota make superb tractors in the "compact" size (i.e. the 4200) and the "subcompact" (i.e.the BX23) size ranges.

I never said they were the same. As I said twice:...it depends on what he's using it for. bigger is not always better. i know this from experience.

Does he need a BH?..if so the BX has that standard. Hydro? BX Standard. 4x4, BX standard. Does he need any of this?...I don't know. If he has to lift a 1500# tiller, a BX isn't his machine...Just sayin.

I'm having difficulty understanding why you are taking this so personally.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about your inability to comprehend the half the tractor thing.

I will add my perspective this issue. The BX is a fine little tractor. Wish I had one. But, my 4200 could pick it up as ballast and not even break a sweat.

Buy the one that best suits your need. Good luck with your purchase.

Original poster has apparently moved beyond the specific models discussed in this thread and is looking at others. Moderator... time to close this one?
