Bought a used (270 hours) BX23 and just put a Sitrex rear 48" finish mower on it. I was mowing a field yesterday and intermittently, the tractor would start to run very rough and feel like it was going to stall. I'd dis-engage the PTO, drop the throttle to idle (which was very rough) and wait about 10 seconds, at which time the idle would smooth out and I'd be good to go. This occurred uphill, downhill, etc. and seemed completely random. Temperature never got about halfway on the gauge.

I added some fuel treatment (2 ounces of MPGreen) to 3/4 of a tank of gas, but this didn't seem to solve the problem. The 4 oz. container said it treats "up to 90 gallons" so I figured 2 ounces in 4 gallons of diesel was sufficient.

Did I not use enough additive? Something more worrisome?

I appreciate any thoughts as I'm a bit worried.

Thanks as always, Richard

Does it have new fuel filters on it? If not, that would be job one. I'd also give serious consideration to drain the tank and using new fuel.

I agree the fuel filters are pretty small on these things. I would at least replace the rear one if not both of them. One is near the back of the tractor, and the other is up near the engine under the hood.

Thought I had a filter problem that turned out to be leak in the rubber line at the filter... a twig got caught up and punctured the line... only noticeable above idle speed.
