Personally, I would be more concerned about the bolt breaking vs. the weld breaking. If it is welded properly, then it becomes part of the metal. I have seen more bolts break than I have seen welds break. Usually if you are exerting enough force to break the weld, the metal will bend long before this happens. There are specially made hooks just for welding onto buckets. It is always better to use the hook the way it was designed to be used. Hooks with eyes in them are for attaching to chains, hooks with flats are designed to be welded.
