BX2360 or B Series? (I know you all get tired of these)

How well does the B series mow in the high speed? When I tested the BX2350 it seemed like the top speed on it was a little slow compared to my riding mower that I was used to.

I take care of 2 acres of field converted into a lawn and I would say if the BX (smaller tire size) beats the tar out of me. I go slow and run lower tire pressure to compensate. I also dream of the day I can afford a real lawn.:) I was trying to buy a used B but couldn't get the job done so I bought a new BX. I would look at the B if I was to take a do over. Bigger tires look good to me now. :D One of the other considerations is BX has a suspended floating style deck and B's have a suspended ground following style deck. (I'm sure my terms are off on this one). On this one the BX is the winner to me?

The new B2x20 series have suspended decks just like the BX.

Is the fuel economy about the same between the two?
Not sure anyone has done a mileage comparison...tough to do...but I would assume the B2630 would sip a little more fuel given that it has a few more HP and has a higher capacity hydraulic pump (creating a bit more load, I would think).

I will offer that my BX2230 (22HP previous-gen version of the BX2350/2360) uses 5 gallons of fuel in about 10 hours in mixed use. Generally speaking I am either mowing at WOT, using the BH at 80% throttle, or using the loader at 50% throttle...probably an even mix between the three for any given tank.

Given the amount of work performed for that amount of fuel, I would consider that exemplary use of fuel. I'm coming up on 250 hours in 4+ years of ownership, so for the EXCEPTIONAL amount of work performed by my machine, I've invested $375 worth in diesel (at $3/gal) or under $100 a year. Drop in the bucket.

My tank is 5 gallons and the B2630 is 8 gallons...I'd figure you'd get 10 to 12 hours of use per tank, depending.

I know that mine has the "suspended" 60 inch deck :p

On paper, it sounds like you need a B to me. As soon as you mention "farm" I think B. But to be honest, since the bx will do anything a B can do, you would never go wrong with a bx. It's easier to go wrong with a tractor that is too big for some chores/spots on your property.

I found this forum a couple of months ago when I was going through the same dilemma you are going thru - BX or B. I just joined and here is my $0.02on what and how I decided. I decided for a B2620 mainly because of the clearance, lift capacity on the FEL and 3-point hitch, and PTO HP. I have 42 acres on very hilly and bumpy terrain in which I mowed about 4 acres. I also plan to maintain the road to the house, which has been a hefty drain of money every time I ask a contractor to do it for me. Through this forum I also found that a Wallenstein BX42 wood chipper works well with the B2620, which I plan to add to maintain the rest of the wooded area. All in all, the B2620 was definitely a better choice, in spite of the added cost. I paid $16540 for tractor, LA364 FEL and 60" MMM.

This past weekend I was scrapping/leveling the road with a 72" Woods rear blade, and going uphill, scrapping very dry compacted soil and gravel, the engine did not slow down a bit - very powerful machine.

The dealers I visited were very helpful discussing the capabilities of both models based on the needs I explained. If possible, it would be good to visit 2 or 3 dealers to get different opinions and get quotes. Definitely drive both models to get a feel for them.

Good luck!

Argeux - you need a 72" ZTR if you are mowing 8 acres. You will be done in 1/4 of the time!

My plan (so far based on my research) is to get a B3200 with a FEL and BH, and either a MMM or a RMM. I may still use the JD as a finish mower in tight areas.

What would be an approx. time difference between mowing 8acres with a few trees and obstacles with your avg. 60 in ZTR in comparison to a B or BX with a 60in MMM?

I would also agree that for lawn mowing the BX can't be beat in the tractor line,But feild mowing I'd go with the B. I have a BX and mow 2 acre's of lawn around my house it's great,I also mow parts and sometimes all of a 6 acre feild next to my house I purchased some years back, BX gets a little jumpy or hoppy going back in forth in that feild not as smooth as a lawn. But it does work no problem with power or such just ride.
