BX24/25 or B2920 with backhoe?

Yes, I know the 3030 has a good subframe, but I believe the frame of the BX25 I bought is tougher and more suitable for a backhoe than either the 2620 or the 2920, which do not come standard with the BH. And, by the time you pay for the base 3030, and then add in the extra for a BH, you are in to quite a bit more money than the BX25, wgich somes standard with the BH.

Well i looked at both the little guy as well as the 2620 and not sure where you are getting your beliefs from but thats all they are as the facts do not back you up . In the past kubota used a three point hook up on the backhoe but on my 2620 the frame mount is built for the tractor just like on the bx25 . The smaller ones are a great tractor but for me the extra money for the 2620 was worth it over the next many years I plan on having the tractor . I looked and thought long and hard and figured the bx could do about 90% of the projects I have dreamed up but the 2620 would do about 98-99% and figured in that logic I might as well get the 2620 and save on future rentals .

I think the Kubota Engineers would argue that you are dead wrong. Your little BX25, though a good little machine, is in no way tougher than any of Kubota's bigger machines. Kubota engineers all of their machines to fairly high standards.

Fact is, the larger B2x20 has been designed from the start to be set up as a TLB, just like your BX25. Only difference is that you can add a Kubota subframe backhoe with a factory option thumb and a single reversible TLB style seat to any one of the B2x20s. Can't do that with any of the other BX models - you have to buy the BX25 if you want the Kubota backhoe. Can't yet get a Kubota thumb on the BX25 either, I don't believe.

Any one of the larger 2x20 TLB's are a more capable, stronger machine than the BX25, and will outwork and outperform the smaller BX any day, period. And since the 2x20s are larger, I think it's safe to assume that the subframes on them consist of a little more steel than the BX25's subframe. I've seen the BX subframe in person (BX22) and it is similar to the subframes on Kubota's larger machine's backhoes.

I'll take that challenge with my BX24. But I get to pick where... and the larger 2x20 isn't gonna fit:D.

this is the type of information I was looking for. I wanted the B2920 because of horsepower, the smaller bx24/25 only have single hydraulic cylinder on FEL and the larger B's have two. when you see the bx next to the B2920 next to the B3030 the compact size of the B2920 looks good, the B2920 is very close to the B1750 I had and the L3010 I had was much to big for my needs and only 32 HP plus it's weight when towing was close to twice the weight. I also wanted the B2920 to take a BH eventually because of the mounting
Kubota designed verses the three point hitch mount. From what everyone says if you have a BH you will use it.

Even though the bx only has one curl cylinder it will lift whatever you can fit in the bucket. Even mixed concrete. Look at the size of that one cylinder and you'll see why. It's a much larger diameter than you might think.

I stopped by the dealer yesterday, and he had a BX25 and a B2920 right next to each other. The B2920 was of course bigger, but it did not have the external frame member around the perimeter to connect the FEL and the BH, and he confirmed again that the BX25 was the more appropriate frame if you want to do heavy BH work, since the whole tractor was set up for both. (although of course the lifting specs and such are higher for the B2920) In fact, to me, the B2920 just didn't look as sturdy as the BX25, and if you go to the Kubota website you will see that the two tractors weight the same without the BH and FEL, namely about 1550 lbs. (FYI, The Kubota rep sent me the BX25 specs with the FEL and Loader, and the total package weighs 2700 lbs. Note that this spec does not seem to be on the website, not even for the BX24, and I couldn' find it in the manual either.)

Also, you can get a (fixed) mechanical thumb for the BX25 BH.

Not that I want to continue this 'argument' much longer, as it appears both you and your salesman seem to be of the opinion that the little BX25 is the TLB to beat, but did the B2920 that you looked at have the backhoe attachment on it?

The extra steel brackets that connect the backhoe subframe to the FEL subframe are part of the backhoe attachment, and are added only when the backhoe is installed. I've seen just one of those with the backhoe, and it had those extra steel brackets on it, though that was quite a while back.

I'm curious if the dealer left those off when they installed the backhoe. I'd also be interested to hear from any other B2x20 owners that have the backhoe as to whether their machine has the steel brackets that go from the backhoe subframe to the FEL subframe. I just find it hard to believe that Kubota would suddenly move away from a design that all of their backhoe subframes utilize, to something less substantial on the new small B's.

Also, you can get a (fixed) mechanical thumb for the BX25 BH

From Kubota as an option? Or are you referring to the few aftermarket versions that are available?

Since this one is more than enough to get the task done why would you need 2 or more ?

You may consider purchasing a B26. The back hoe is very nice with 4200# of bucket break out force. We are also building a home and will use the B26 for uncountable tasks. It will pay for its self.

Re: The thumb - it's from Kubota, and too bad it is fixed - I'd really be interested if it was a hydraulic or otherwise moveable thumb, so I could pick up trees and such.

Re: The frame - don't know. The B2920 I saw had no FEL or BH on it. I'll ask next time I'm up.
