BX24 and BX2350 RPM differences

My 2350 maxed out is right at 3300rpm. I hardly ever run it much faster than 3000 never had the need. I even mow at 2950.

Looks like the Super Mini Series D902 engines can be had in two configurations with max goverened speed at 3200 and 3600 rpm.

Kubota Engine America - Compact Diesel Engines

Hi Guys and Gals,

I'm new to this forum but have been reading posts for the last few weeks as I just purchased a new BX-24 just before Christmas. Makes me feel like a little kid again, real cool.

Anyhow, I am curious why Kubota specifications for the BX-24 calls for a D-902 Engine with a HP rating of 23.5HP @ 3200rpm but the link shown above states the HP rating for this engine is actually 21.6HP this suprises me. Can anybody enlighten me?

My only real concern on this is if I ever use an attachment with a rated HP requirement I suppose I should use the correct rating but which one?

Interestingly enough the D-1005-E3B Engine is rated at 23.5HP at 3000rpm but it is slightly larger with a 61.08cu in displacement.

Probably slightly different versions. If you look you'll see the oil capacities aren't the same either....

Those engines on the Kubota Engines site are generic industrial engines produced for use on equipment, generators and such other uses like the Bobcat skidsteers. The Kubota tractor engines are customized and have different oil sumps, intake/exaust manifolds and water outlets for cooling along with tweeked injection and govenor settings for the specific application. But if you go in and look at the torque and horsepower sheets they are close to what we have.

Thanks for the info. Getting back on the OP question, I was under the impression that the BX2350 was the identical tractor to the BX24 without the Loader and the Backhoe. Specifications are identical except weight due to the implements except you can get the bar tires on the BX-2350 and not the BX-24. I would imagine that the differences in MAX rpm is due to a miss-adjustment of the govenors or tachometers on both machines. Might be worth checking out, I would if it were mine and new. I wouldn't want to overload my tractor by revving too high.

Since I only have <20hrs on mine I don't rev much past 2200-2400rpm as I really haven't needed to and I am still breaking it in. I'm not sure what mine tops out at.

Have not looked at the tach setup on the BX series but it may be due to variations of the alternator or other signal source. Since diesels do not have an ignition source for a tach to be driven off of they use either one driven off the engine by cable, flywheel magnet, piezo transducer on injection lines or probably the cheapest is reading the signal from the charging system. Just guessing but unless you get a contact type tach on the engine there may be some variation. Will get a Tiny Tach installed on the BX2230 one of these days but until then just go by ear.
