BX24 maximize wood hauled in Bucket

I built a bunch of these racks using 1/2 pallets for bases.
I can stack them as I split, and then use the 3pt carry-all ( or FEL fork ) to move them to where I want them. In the winter, I use the FEL fork to put one on my deck, near the back door for convenient access.

I find that carrying them on the back makes fir easier manuevering, and is also easier on my lawn ( the load is then in the much larger rear tires).

Jas, I like that idea. You only have to handle split wood by hand once. I have several pallets to build racks out of. Thanks

I don't have any pictures of the "hamper" in action, since, you know, it's summer.
But here are a couple of it in the room with the stove, where it just lives all year.

It has 5-inch non-marring (this is important - the kitchen linoleum wasn't happy with marring) casters.

The threshold from the mudroom to the deck is small - only a couple of inches. I made a ramp out of one deck board sideways, to make getting in with the loaded box easier.

The deck is 5 stairs above ground level.

JAS67, How'd you get the pallet forks attached to the rear?

Hey Jas, I really like that setup. Its a good idea that you can have them all stacked up and ready so when you need them you just move them to where ya need them. What would you estimate the weight at with all that wood? I have a bx24 and wondering if would have trouble lifting that. I probably would have to make it smaller. I looked it up and my lift capacity is 400lbs less than yours, ~ 992 and 661 2' back....

looks like an unstable load and a bit heavy for the FEL. i like the idea of making crates, then using forks of some kind. why not drag the logs up whole, then cut them when you're out of the woods. you could rig up a pulley system to take the logs uphill without using the tractor.

just wanted to say I like JAS idea a lot - will be building one of those this fall I'm thinking. Or 6... Put a ply roof with a shed angle on and its even a bit of a wood shed.

If you burn wood for heat, the 1/2 pallet idea is good but you'd need a bunch of them to get through the winter. At 2'Logsx4'Wide pallet stacked 4'High, that's 32'Sq = 1/4 cord. We burn around 5 cords per winter so thats 20 of those suckers.

I'm still trying to make wood burning easy but it's not. I have a lean-to woodshed 12Wx8Dx7H, wood storage in the back of the garage that holds 1-1/2 cord just for backup/emergency wood, a 2-1/2 cord cube of cross-stacked wood near the outside cellar door, a stacked cord in the back of the barn workshop, and inside storage that holds about 1-1/2 cord with a pass-through hole into the cellar (where I start loaded with 1-1/2 cord on racks in the fall.) I burn the farthest wood first then as snow gets deeper use the wood that is closer, and finally when it is the coldest and deepest snow, use the inside storage wood. It's work.
