BX24 Tiller, GR2120 riding mower, meaning of life...

Hi all,

I've been using the BX24 as a general-purpose machine: loader, hoe, and bush hog. I also have a Deere 425 with MMM and a hydraulic 42" tiller.

The Deere mows the large yard (w/steep hill) and tills the veggie gardens. I've always thought the BX with a tiller was too big to get inside the deer (small d, no trailing e) fence to till the gardens until I thought of taking the loader off. Duh. (big D).

The Deere deck has finally rusted through. It also has a tendency to slide down the hill. Sideways. Whee.

Current thinking is putting a Rankin SB-110 tiller (w/offset) on the BX. I can pick one up locally for $1600 new. Then what to get for mowing? I'm really attracted by the GR2120 all-wheel drive. Should help on the hill.

I think the tiller is a decent deal for new, but the GR is just $$$. I might be able to justify it if I'm convinced the AWD will help. Or if I can convince SWMBO it will help...

I welcome comments on all the above.

Thanks,
Z.

Hello Zoltan,

You might want to consider a Caroni flailmower as I
understand the Agri supply folks have a store or two
on the left coast now and they offer an internet price
break for purchases of the Caroni Mowers.

Their prices are good nationwide and freight to your
door is included in the price. The Caroni models also offer
a hydraulic side shift for several of their flail mowers.

The Seppi folks also have a line of small flailmowers and
also offer a hydraulic side shift option as well.

I do not remember if the gentleman that owns Ferrari USA in
California carries the Seppi line or the Berta line of mowers
and it would be worth a call to enquire about them.

What about a deck for the BX???

David Kb7uns

That's an option I've considered, but the BX seems a little heavy for the lawn.

The other consideration is that I mow a couple of times a week and taking implements on and off the BX all the time would wear this old man out.

I leave the hog and loader on the BX most of the time since I have some rough fields to keep knocked down too.

It's a thought, though.

Thanks,
Z.

I like the 60" deck on my BX. I remove the loader which is no trouble at all, 2 minutes and I am done. I have never used my 3PTH so I dont know whats involved there. I leave the bagger on the BX cuz thats a royal PITA to put on and off. But one machine to maintain, has 4WD, Decks are available used on CL and Ebay or from many dealers so they dont break the bank and they mow pretty well. Probably cheaper than buying the GR.

I would buy the 60" deck. The bx is not that much heavier. I had a GR2100 before my bx and I would not buy another. The concept is great but it needs a hi & low range. The high gearing made mine stall on hills. Stick with what you have and add a deck.

Well I started out with a BX2230 and it mows real good, added a catcher later for the fall leaves and heavy spring grass. Strarted putting alot of time on the BX and wanted a complementing mower for tight spots and under trees in orchard. Looked at Big Box stores and did not find anything as rugged as a BX or something else.

Dealer had one G2160-60 left before the GR2100 took its place and picked it up as I did not like the early reports on the GRs plus the G2160 deck was the same as the BX2230s.

The G and GR are in that spot between a lawn tractor and a garden/subcompact tractors. If you want to add things like ablade, snowblower or bagger it is better to step up to the BX as the attachments are about the same or more sometimes. The G and GR mowers are more nimble and will race around the lawn like a sports car but when it comes down to the grunt work the BX still wins. And with mowing over 4 acres in the spring I can run both machines to keep on the 5 day mow cycle. You are going to have to gauge your needs and the hassle of removing implements but would not ignore the BX deck as the GRs are getting up there in price now.

Hmmm, I should know the answer to this: with all _three_ Bro-tek plates in place, can I attach a MMM to the BX?

If the GR wasn't so $$$ I'd probably just give it a try. The AWD on the hill in the lawn should be just the thing.

Thanks again,
Z.

1*Not unless the ground is wet and soggy then even a push mower can be heavy enough to rut it.
AB C
2*I solved that problem with these.
3*I leave the mower on the BX1500 in picture A.
I leave the tiller and front blade on the Bx1500 in picture B.
I leave the FEL BH and mower on the BX23 in picture C.
4*They are less machine for the money than a BX.
5*You're not going to either cause they don't have it.
6*This is why the local Kubota Dealer won't even stock the G and GR models. The BX is more bang for the buck.
7*I mow the front part of my place on the 10 20 and 30th days of the month .
The upper back part is mowed on the 14 and 28th days of the month .
8*Simply put The BX is more bang for the buck
