Hello All. New the forum. I have "officially" retired as a grain farmer (if a farmer can ever retire) :) and have bought a small place (less than 10 acres) to retire on.

I bought a BX25 mainly for the FEL and to keep my wife happy by moving tons of mulch every year. As well, I will use the FEL to help with the critters and their supplies. The BH will come in handy when I build some retaining walls.

My question is pretty straightforward. If I plan on mainly using the FEL, do I need to purchase wheel weights or a ballast box if I plan on using the FEL at times close to the max weight without the BH attached? The tractor seems fairly balanced, but I suspect that without the BH attached, I will need the weight out back. Any recommendations?

My BX2360 gets very light on the back with little or no weight on the back and a heavy load in the bucket. Very easy to lift a rear wheel. Unless I need another implement, I normally keep a box blade on since it is the heaviest and smallest thing I have.

Thanks for the information. I have owned the BX for a couple of weeks and have always had the BH on it when I was moving loads with the FEL. Based on your experience, I will look into adding some weight out back. Thanks for responding!

You WILL need some sort of ballast! 850 hours on my BX24 and with the backhoe on it is wonderful to do FEL work. Take it off and it is SCARY!. Put on my boxblade as some ballast, and it starts to act better. I would not mind having a ballast box and add about the weight of the backhoe on it.

I never take the BH off of my BX25. I've owned other BXs without a BH and those that had FELs I'd use a Boxblade as the weight plus have a usable implement. Can get a used BB for reasonable cost.
I know others swear by the weight box but I for one can't see paying the money for something so restricted in uses so again I'm voting for the BB if you have to take the BH off, which I never do.

I had my BX with and without liquid ballast in tires. I gotta say, I really like the liquid ballast in tires. The BX is much more tippy then a large farm tractor.

Marauder,
I've got a BX25. You will be fine using the hoe as your only form of ballast. In fact, if you look in your manual, Kubota recommends against operating the tractor with the hoe on and using loaded tires.
I think the BX25 is a little pit bull.
