BX25 quit running, almost starts, fires black smoke and sounds mad.

Forget the air filter. Go get some 'cut' winter diesel from someone who sells diesel year round and cuts their fuel for winter use. Change both fuel filters and drain out the crap fuel you have in the tank now. Install new filters and cut fuel in tank. Start her up and do work.:thumbsup:

thanks again everybody, up and running. 28 degrees here today... replaced air filter, and purchased but did not install fuel filters. turn the key to "on" and listen to the pump, which made kind of a swisching noise then, and then it's regular clicking. obviously something purged through, the the tractor started and ran normally. i did add some 911 (white bottlle) and filled the tank. cold temps, condensation, gelling -- all combined the culprit i'd say! surprised the dealer would be so sure it was an air filter. cheers!
