BX25 Squealing when using 3PT hitch

I had a similar problem with my BX 25.I started noticing a loud unusual noise when ever the pressure relief valve was bypassing.Couldn't figure it out and it almost drove me crazy. After searching and searching I finally discovered it was the bypass hose laying on the PTO guard and causing the sound. After changing the twist in the hose the sound went away, easy fix .I am not saying this is your problem but it is worth looking at where the hose is laying.Good luck.

I too had taht problem one time when my backhoe was attached. But with the backhoe removed, the line does not come near anything.

kcender, good point for anyone with that problem. My neighbor also had that happen and I pointed that same problem out to him.

Well, from my point of view, it does squeal louder with 3pt when it reaches the top. I beleive its from the reverbation from the power beyond hose. If you put your hand on the power beyond loop, from the seat, (careful watch those lift arms) and lift the 3 pt. When it reaches the "top" and 3 pt releif kicks in, the noise does seem to emanate from the hose. With the PBYD hose loop so close to the seat, I am not suprised about the noise. When the BH is hookedup, the pbyd hose is down below the "floor" of the feet on BH so its hiding some of the noise there.

Remember with the BX's it has TWO return oil lines with BH connected. With the loop on for 3 pt use, all of the oil is going in the primary oil return on the pybd making the relief kick in stronger and more.

That theory makes alot of sense, but you would think it would do it immediately once connected but doesn't until about 20min later. I guess its something to do with the oil temperature. Also, with all the fluid going through the one hose, this would explain why it the squealing gets louder with higher RPM.

I will mention it to my Kubota mechanic to see what he thinks.

I admit that the 20 min timing making higher noise has me a little stumped. All I can say the only possiblity I can think of is low oil causing foaming after 20 mins of use or sticky valve 3 pt valve. I doubt its either since BH works just fine and you mentioned MMM lifts fine.

You could check the ball operation of the male connector of PYBD. Try swapping the female connector from one of FEL hoses to PYBD to test. Doing it this way will eliminate some of the possiblities.

Just MHO.

I would take apart the quick connect hose fittings, especially on the return side. it sounds like some debris junk, dirt may be clogging the return side, making the squeal. what size hoses/fittings are you using? what size is on the correctly running attachment? what size is on the incorrectly working attachment?

when you disconnect, do any of the connections dribble? do any leak when attached? that would be a sign. but I would eliminate the clogged backpressure first. It doesn't cost anything to clean it up a bit anyway! (just time!)

Were the hoses used on the new installation new, or old? old as in previously successfully used, or old as in you never actually used them yourself? are these factory made connections? or screw together aeroquip hoses? it is possible one of the ends was assembled wrong!

Well it happened again today. After about 35 mins of mowing I went to raise the deck and it made the loud noise. Now if I pulled up all the way on the 1/4 inching valve it stopped but trying to ease it up it made it. If I lowered the rpm the noise got less so its a pressure issue on return. I too am thinking maybe dirt in the system and the noise definately comes from the backhoe hose. I did consider that the hydro system was over full and creating too much pressure when the fluid gets hot and expands. I did add some after about the first 10 hours because it looked low. I drained some out and will give it a go later this week. Just some added thoughts. Mike R.

The new installation is a box blade, no hydraulics required. As mentioned earlier, some connections have to be re-configured when the BH is removed, this is when I hear the squealing.

Also, no leaks on any connections.

In your first few lines you describe my BX symptoms exactly, except not with a mowing deck but with the 3pt hitch. Then again its the same function.

I to added some fluid because it was down a little, but it made no difference. The squealing definitly increases with rpm as you mentioned.

Ok, new prognoses. My BX is now making this squealing sound with the BH attached, but not when using the BH. If I am using the BX hard for extended periods ( 1 hr +) performing normal loader duties and staling the FEL the squealing does appear.

I think that the squealing is a result of stressing the BX HST and not using the implements (FEL or BH) hard. The reason I say this is that I can use the BH hard for hours and no squealing but once I start using the FEL or box scraper hard for more than an hour the sound appears. I think it is a direct result of pushing the HST hard and heating the oil to a level that for some reason causes this sound.

Today I did a job for a friend that involved both BH & FEL work and it was 29 deg C. I never once heard the sound during BH work but when using the FEL and raising while pushing forward I could easily cause the squealing.

This is very frustrating and I know its going to be hard for the Kubota dealer to troubleshoot because he is not going to use the BX for more than an hour to wait for the sound to appear. So where do I go from here, I know its not normal, it was never there before.

Any more ideas would be great.

Well mine did it again for the third time yesterday using the 1/4 inching valve to raise the mower deck. This was after only about 40 min of mowing. Hardly hard use for this tractor. I am going to be in contact with my dealer on Monday as there was no one in service today. I am at a loss why this shows up when its hot. By that point the fluid gets thinner and the hydro is relatively quieter. That the great thing about buying new. I dont have to figure it out they do. Just an FYI. Mike R.
