Do you always drive around with your brush guard down? My loader doesnt clear mine!! so I cant ;-)

Funny story...

I had to swing it down to open the hood to make sure that the windshield frame would clear the hood. When I was done I swung the grill guard back into position, but apparently I forgot to push the pins back in place to hold it. I didn't realize that the guard had swung back down when I was driving, and when I parked the tractor and put the loader down, I bent the guard.

Oh well, I was gonna remove it anyhow for the hood protector I'm going to build, but it still sucks that I bent it.

Oh that doesn't look to hard to straighten out, a little heat maybe a lot of heat and a vise. Of course you'll have to paint it when you paint the rest of you new frame but no biggie!

Thanks fellas... finished constructing the roof (beginning phase of course). Ended up making it out of 3/4" hardwood plywood. I will be cutting out "skylights" for the roof for visibility and covering them with plexi. I'll finish the wood with filler-primer and tractor enamel to seal it. Using angle-iron to line the edges of the roof for durability (that'll get painted too, of course).

Right now I'm just finishing up some little things to the main frame (little add-ons) like storage, mounting points, etc. Then I'll take it back off, weld on all the little extras, and paint it. This project is becoming fun. I'll be moving the rear flashers up towards the top, and getting some LED work-light bars for the front and back, which will mount to the roof-frame under the overhangs --- that'll really help night illumination. I'm also building a large metal "tool-box" that will go all the way across the back. Also planning to add a "marine" stereo & speakers, along with some other goodies. Picked up a bunch more metal today from the scrap yard (love that place).

All in all, I'll probably only have around $220 in metal on the whole project. $50 or less in wood. Not sure how much on the plexi yet. I think I have enough lying around for the skylight, but not for the windshield or the rest of the "cab" although I'm not in a rush to get that part done, won't need it until winter :D

I wonder if some of that low expansion spray foam insulation sprayed down the tubing would make it a little less noisy with the sympathetic vibration from the engine.? Just a thought.

It's coming along! What are you going to do for a windshield wiper in the winter? Or are you not going to have one. I'd agree with the prospect of spray foam for noise dampening.

:drink:VERY nice TSO...I wonder how you have the time to do this. I too have two young kids, a wife, a full-time job, a part-time job, and everything in between...any thoughts on how the rest of us might be able to spend more time on our 'rigs'?;)

Thanks. I'm still debating that, and it's gonna depend on what I end up using for the windshield. I don't know how well a wiper would do on Plexi. But, I'm considering having a glass shop actually make a custom windshield, in which case I'd have to figure out a wiper setup. I've heard that it's not difficult to grab a wiper out of a junk yard and install one.
